I worked at TIS Insurance Services full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The company pays for your licensing and continuing education. They want you to learn as much as you can about insurance. The coworkers are great. It's a team environment and people are always willing to help if you're behind or need another set of eyes on a project. The management has set procedures and processes in place. With every company, there is always room for improvement. But because TIS has been around for so long, their procedures work and are followed. The company constantly has group activities and encourages coworkers to mingle and get to know one another. For such a large company, it still has that nice family-business feel to it. There is always room for growth. TIS allows opportunity in all departments for anyone. So you can make the switch from Personal to Commercial to Construction if you're the right applicant for the job.

    Cons

It would be great if they offered more flexibility to work from home.. but with this industry and HIPAA regulations, TIS doesn't want to risk any secure information they have on clients. Would more pay be great? Absolutely. In any job, you will want more pay. TIS does offer yearly bonuses to employees based on the company's profits. Yearly reviews also help raise pay. If you work hard here, you will be rewarded for it.

    Advice to Management

Maybe discuss the idea of work-from-home opportunities for your employees. Young professionals value this flexibility.

    Pros

If you're friends or family of any of the higher-ups, you'll fit right in.

    Cons

Absolutely no regard for modern corporate culture whatsoever. This is one of those places that you could work at for 30 years, never show up to work and no one would know. However, reputation is everything. Unless you're family, if they see you out at a bar (only seen this with women; men seem to be able to get as wasted as they want, unless that woman is hitting on another man), use a cuss word, wear too little makeup or don't "fit in" to their idea of company culture, you will be on your way out the door. There is so much of a "bro fraternity" mentality in this company, you will never make any ranks simply by hard work. The dichotomy of church going Southerner and wasted bar rat is astounding. This is entirely earned on getting "in" with whomever the big hot shot is at the time. They have a prayer chain that runs through the office they automatically opt you in (I imagine it's where many of them get their water cooler conversation, they will gossip mercilessly and they will churn more money from anybody that's willing to give them a heads-up. Their employee manual actually has the length in inches a woman should wear a skirt. It is not explicitly said but strongly implied that if you are not a Christian, they won't hire you. There is absolutely no diversity in the office. Not one minority works there. Not one person of a different religion works there. Every single one of the Board of Directors is male. Every. single. one. Their presidents have more money than God while the rest of the employees barely clear 30k. This is a Trump-esque corporation if I've ever seen one. Be prepared.

    Advice to Management

Check your office politics and employee manual before running into a lawsuit.

I worked at TIS Insurance Services full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The position has a set schedule, fair health insurance, paid time off and sick time, clean work area, company sponsored events

    Cons

Everything is needed like yesterday, more work than realistically possible, management oblivious to duties of staff, too much drama and gossip for a professional environment

    Advice to Management

Review the workload expected of staff, reward the loyal staff who do more than required.

    Pros

Every job has it's pros and cons, but at TIS the pros outweigh the cons considerably. Atmosphere, co-workers, benefits, management. I worked here before and came back several years later.

    Cons

Health insurance premiums are high, but are in line with other insurance agencies. Training could be better.

    Advice to Management

Come up with consistent training for your employees by department.

I have been working at TIS Insurance Services full-time

    Pros

    Good coworkers. Decent benefits.

    Cons

Where to start... rampant nepotism, favoritism, technologically irrelevant, grossly underpaid, even more overworked. Some positions are there just to look good on paper (i.e. Human Resources and public relations). Has a reputation in the industry for being a bully to underwriters.

    Advice to Management

Recognize that without some positions (i.e. Account managers) you wouldn't retain your clients. Looking at salaries and work loads it certainly doesn't look like they are appreciated. Also, management has a tendency to make promises or say they'll do something and then never follow through. Finally, you have got to work on morale. Most people who work there look unhappy and are probably just there because they enjoy not being homeless. More (or any) team building and appreciation would go a long way. Stop padding the owners pockets and give a little more recognition to those who actually do the hard work and help retain your clients.

    Pros

I love the camaraderie of our work family and I especially love the fact that everyone shares the same excellent work ethic. The team spirit is alive and well at TIS! There are many unique attributes of TIS that make it a wonderful place to work!

    Cons

Sometimes there are several tight deadlines that require the 'above and beyond' status, but we consider those times opportunities rather than cons.

    Advice to Management

Thank you for caring and sharing with your employees.

    Pros

There are a limited few very fine people employed there and it is a shame that management doesn't care how the employees are treated - even the truly good-hearted, hard working people

    Cons

The reputation of the company is terrible in the industry. All they are interested in is how much money they can make. They do not care whether employees are treated with respect or common decency. It is work, work, work & don't dare think about stopping for even a rest room break.
