I have been working at Tempus full-time

    Pros

The work environment is surprisingly easygoing and lively. The staff looks out for each other and believes in one another. There is a strong family or team vibe across the business. The work-life balance is top notch. There is a minimal amount of politics and hidden agendas which typically run rampant in office environments. There is no reading between the lines to understand what is expected of you. Goals and objectives are clearly defined. Free lunch Fridays promotes cross pollination of employees across departments. This leads to better communication and collaboration overall which is important to any business. Ping-pong table in the breakroom gives you the opportunity to reset when needed.

    Cons

A tough regulatory environment makes it difficult for this growing MSB to really spread its wings. This is a challenge across the industry and nothing against Tempus specifically.

I worked at Tempus full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good location, plenty of good places to wish you can go to lunch, but they only pay enough for you to eat McDonald and on speculiar occasion subway foot long with no drinks or chips, just the foot long.

    Cons

Cold call cold call and cold call and then cold call some more until you quit. Every transaction and customer you get before you quit will simply go to 3 or 4 sales people there that live make a living waiting for other people to quit or get fired to take their clients.

    Advice to Management

Manage by people that don't know how to manage a sales office, they think they know it all and have all the answers but the only reason people stay is because they are waiting for people to quit or get fired to get a raise.

    Pros

Friday Lunches, Cool and motivating staff, out of office events, high class environment, a lot of client management and sales. Best part was being mentored by many of the great employees at Tempus and getting to know the Tempus Family.

    Cons

Spent 6 months training and wasting time, then moved me to LA office while in the rookie phase, I took it but it wasn't a smart decision from management .They said we came in at a great time for the company, but 4 people have quit since I started due to unreasonable changes. Some upper management needs therapy and more sales training than rookies.

    Advice to Management

Take a Business course or something. Make changes that will actually make a difference. Dont act like a big shot while making stupid decisions.

I have been working at Tempus full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Friday lunch is quite a nice perk.

    Cons

Not sure about D.C. but in LA, you'lll be given a 90-day 'at-will' contract which means don't tell others you're employed before your 90-days expires. The FX business is both seasonal and cyclical and subject to the whims of the economy so avoid applying during the summer or when there's little market volatility.. The recent acquisition by the Mexican Monex Group brings with it both the ambition and ruthlessness character of our southern neighbor (you'll be lied to with a warm smile). Here you will experience a true 'Glengarry Glen Ross' sales environment first hand as you wade through a culture where it's best not to get too close to anyone. Tempus is on par with most micromanaged sales environments that works well for ambitious types who are comfortable making promises they can't keep. If you admire Pacino's 'Tony Montana' character in Scarface, you'll be right at home at Tempus LA. - but watch your back.

    Advice to Management

Pointless to offer advice. They know it all.

I have been working at Tempus full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Free lunch on fridays and free team lunches about once a month. You get to wear anything you want to work and is overall a very laid back atmosphere. Free coffee and quarterly bonuses for non sales employees. Also company outings to many of the DC pro sports games.

    Cons

Basically since it is such a laid back atmosphere its kind of hard to take the job seriously sometimes. The company has a lot of growing pains and the management is basically figuring it out as they go. Many of the sales employees do not last very long, the pay is also kind of low for DC and there is very little room for growth. Overall kind of unorganized and some basic SOP is outdated and stuck in the 20th century i.e. Tempus waste a lot of paper.

    Advice to Management

Increase base pay. Management does not need to be hired from within. Hiring management from outside Tempus would help to change some of the apathetic work ethic that many of the employees have.

I have been working at Tempus full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I have learned a lot from this company. I have experienced all aspects of the company from being an intern including sales, operations, compliance, trading, human resources, and accounting. They have free lunch every friday. The office is very laid back with a ping pong table, Keurig machines, punching bag, blender, and filtered water. There is also a very small gym with showers in the building. The location is great! There are many company outings and free team lunches once a month. Day to day tasks keep you thinking and is not really tedious work.

    Cons

Many people do not take their job seriously because of the low pay grade. People act inappropriately at times. There is a 15 minute grace period in the morning because of the metro. Many people abuse this and come in 30-45 minutes late and a few people come in whenever they want an hour or 2 late.

    Advice to Management

Management can be disorganized at times.

    Pros

Management is very eager to help employees succeed. Everyone starts with a two week structured training program, which is a great introduction into foreign exchange and sales.

Great training program on FX and sales
    Casual work environment
    Great work/life balance
    Free Friday lunches
    Free Gym

    Cons

    Small base salary for D.C.
    Limited promotion potential

    Advice to Management

    Increase base

    Pros

It is not about wearing what you want to work, it is the possibility actually being able to shape the firm and be instrumental of taking it to the next level. Being part of that process is thrilling.

    Cons

Still a lot of things to do, many manual procedures that ought to be automated in a mature firm. Usual pains of evolving firms, get used to change, but that is part of the challenge.

    Advice to Management

    Balance

I have been working at Tempus full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The management seems to really care about their employees. They also have very high standards of customer service. I hate to be on the receiving end of bad customer service and I would not be able to work for a company who facilitated this. The company is growing at a very rapid pace, which is not very common in this economy. This will lead to great opportunities for employees in the future.

    Cons

The company is growing very fast, and as a result there are a lot of growing pains, although the changes made seem to be positive.

I have been working at Tempus full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You get to wear what you want too, and get to watch television while working

    Cons

Commission structure is very poor; it will take 6 months to build credibility with clients; no one has ever heard of Tempus; they basically ask you to lie in order to get business.

    Advice to Management

They need to get experience Managers that knows how to run the office, also with Management skills. They have Manager that talks about employees which is very unprofessional
