Not a good employer in the US

Pros

Flexibility, great benefits, competitive pay and people in the US

Cons

China HQ is out of touch with reality. They want people in the US to do things that are not legal and after carefully explaining the issues, HQ management says you are not cooperative and penalizes you. There is zero growth opportunity in the US office; it's far too small and treated like a step-child. They want to expand in the West but won't commit like they are too afraid to fail. They hire very bright leaders in the US (because they are the experts on the US markets and products) to build up products/platforms for the West but then won't let them implement their plans - China says they know better and makes them do things their way in the end. Additionally, they won't commit to hiring a full western team and require the US managers to utilize resources in China.

Horrible HQ Driven Company

Pros

Benefits Salary & Bonus & Annual Salary Increase People in US office Bonus

Cons

They will hire you for your experience and skillset. And then they don't know what to do. They want you to improve China HQ. But they don't want you to interfere with what they do. You cannot do anything because you are not authorized to make any decision if you are from US office. Responsibility power struggle is outrageous in China. You end up not doing anything and just collect paycheck. I'm experiencing this every day as a Chinese speaker. I've seen worse for people who doesn't speak Chinese or not Chinese. Definitely not a place for anyone who's not ready for everyday

Sorry to hear about your negative experience. In the last years we invested a lot of resources in Tencent America so that every employee can feel valued and respected. We have a localization in process to ensure USA can enjoy more independence from HQ.
