I worked at TransAct Technologies full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Relatively positive atmosphere among fellow employees

    Cons

Hyper focused on procedure and protocol, little top-down respect/appreciation for employees, not enough experimentation, meetings are too frequent and contain irrelevant content, pay/management structure is archaic, I thought the CEO was having an aneurysm during more than one meeting.

    Advice to Management

Make complaints about security vulnerabilities from technical staff a higher priority.

    I worked at TransAct Technologies

    Pros

Really great company culture, opportunities to travel and learn about various industries, emphasis on collaborative efforts, chance to touch many different business segments

    Cons

Not the greatest location, company emphasis shifts often as to what product is at the forefront which can be difficult to adjust to quickly, not a huge company with a formalized training stucture

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work, I enjoyed my time working there. Don't take away travel opportunities from sales representatives because that was one of the best perks of the job!

I have been working at TransAct Technologies

    Pros

Small company feel, easy to feel your impact on the business, able to follow printing technology in the narrow format space

    Cons

Very mature market space that is on the decline, narrow format printing is slowly disappearing out of retail

    Advice to Management

Sweep up the opportunities of the others as they leave the industry

I worked at TransAct Technologies full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The speed with which decisions were made was excellent. They acted as soon as they decided.

    Cons

Their Software Engineering Management is abysmal. They do not follow Software Development best practices. The management is constantly changing architecture and design while the coding is going on. There is no peer review and release and test are performed simultaneously. There is a complete absence of code documentation. It is written after the fact and there are absolutely no release notes. Testing is not... supposed to be an afterthought or cutback when the schedule gets tight. It is an integral part of software development that needs to be planned and they perform no integration testing.

    Advice to Management

Project management is key to a successful project. Your Software Engineering management on the product I worked on thought they were re-inventing the wheel. There was a constant state of change while code was being written and deployment was happening before test was complete. Most software projects fail. In fact, over 80% of projects are unsuccessful either because they are over budget, late, missing function,... or a combination. The FST 9700 is not that complex that there should have been this many problems with its software execution. Good luck with the FST 9800. Some people (VP of Software Engineering) should be workers and NOT managers.

    Pros

A small company and its easy to stand out and make a difference. Ideas can be heard and there are very few layers of management.

    Cons

CEO is too involved in everything! If he doesn't like an individual personally, your career is done. The quality of work is not as important as his personal feeling toward an individual.

    Advice to Management

Stop playing favorites and pulling the rug out from under individuals who have worked very hard for their positions. If an employee is producing, they should be allowed to maintain their position regardless of the personal feeling of the CEO.
