I have been working at UnityPoint Health full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Okay benefits, company culture of helping people

    Cons

Lower than optimal pay, not many career pathways

    Advice to Management

Benefits should really be better for a hospital system.

I worked at UnityPoint Health full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Mostly great people to work with, except management was terrible and inept at there jobs.

    Cons

They micromanaged, had no idea what they were doing, and caused high turn over rates. They would often turn other employees against each other promising false raises and promotions. The rules were made up as they felt benefited them. They were total yes people to there superiors with out asking there actual I.T. staff if certain "things" were possible, making the I.T. groups look inept and poor at there jobs. I could go on for hours of how badly and over worked the I.T. staff was treated in Des Moines, Iowa aswell as low pay for the large volume of tickets and travel to various clinics ran there people ragged.

    Advice to Management

Start over with some people that are knowledgeable about I.T. not some who was promoted from Manager – Food and Nutrition Services to running I.T. staff. If you refuse to listen to your own techs but can't fix your own computer how would a person make large decisions like revamping a entire floor of upgrades with time tables.

I have been working at UnityPoint Health part-time

    Pros

The majority of my coworkers are all great. Compassionate and competent.

    Cons

The pay is way too low for the type of job. I've been here for 6 years and there are always issues with management.

I have been working at UnityPoint Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay is more than anywhere else in the region for my job title.

    Cons

We are short providers so they are forcing us to use our PTO, float to another clinic but not get the pay incentive a float gets or take a day off with no pay. Recently informed this could be 1-3 days a week. Very disappointing.

    Advice to Management

Allow senior employees the option of working in the clinic vs floating or being forced to use PTO or take a day off with no pay.

I have been working at UnityPoint Health full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I have no responsibility for expenses

    Cons

I have no control of expenses. Since joining unity point and your ago, my employer contributions to my 401(k) drop by a third. My overhead increased by a third, so my income went down for the same amount of work. There is a lot more busywork, so I had to reduce the number of patients I saw per day order to get home by six or 7 o’clock at night

    Advice to Management

I have said this before at Quality meetings. You need to leverage the physicians that you have left to teach the nurse practitioners who will replace us.

I have been working at UnityPoint Health full-time

    Pros

Loved my co-workers, never personally had problems with management and felt they would listen even if it wasn't something they could fix. Pay was pretty close to our one competitor in the area, and my pay wasn't too low considering the cost of living in the area, but I also felt like the nurses deserved more. We see a good variety of patients and are a big enough hospital that we see some more interesting cases without the hassles of working for a giant hospital.

    Cons

Lots of decisions made by a corporation not even based in the state, for better or worse. When I worked on the floor it felt like nurses would come and go in large waves, so there would be periods of months at a time where mandatory overtime was necessary.
