    Pros

Growing company. Good people and doctors and nurses. Better pay than mercy hospital

    Cons

Bonus keeps shrinking. Too many required netlearning modules to complete every year for nurses

    Advice to Management

Continue to pay better than most and keep hiring good doctors and more nurse practitioners. Don’t cut yearly bonus

I have been working at UnityPoint Health full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

They definitely offer you options to do a wide range of positions within the system. Good Management ‘can’ be a hit or miss, typically you can just go lateral to avoid the bad ones. Your paid leave is awesome if you don’t get a lot of low census.

    Cons

They don’t do bonuses unless it’s system wide. Your raises depend on your boss ‘liking’ you. Half percent incentive to go above and beyond ‘if’ your boss feels like you are awesome. Basically you stay here for stability of keeping a job but don’t expect great healthcare benefits (crazy for working in healthcare, you pay what everyone else does)

    Advice to Management

Offer amazing healthcare benefits and you’d be amazed at the quality of people who would take the pay cut to work here over Iowa City.

I worked at UnityPoint Health full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Given the lack of focus upon actually focusing on what will benefit the company and lack of strategy people come in late and leave early. The location is in a strip mall type location where there is not a great deal of traffic which made going to work less stressful.

    Cons

This company clings to the importance of hierarchy for the sake of nothing but clinging to hierarchy. So, if you need to get something done and go to the person with answers, you will have to waste your time going through the hierarchy, otherwise, risk ruffling feathers.

    Advice to Management

Hire leadership with actual education and experience, not just UPH experience. There are many in leadership positions with little to no formal education. If you aren't going to hire people with formal education and experience, at least get your leadership team to shadow other functions within the organization. In IT there is a complete disconnect between what the users/patients needs and what is delivered. Forget about there being an actionable strategy.

I have been working at UnityPoint Health (More than 5 years)

    Pros

This place is a sinking ship. This used to be the best hospital in Des Moines and thanks to leadership focusing on expanding instead of perfecting, we are in a huge crisis.

    Cons

Nursing leadership needs to be fired from the top down. They care about the budget, not patient safety.

    Advice to Management

the budget will always be a problem. Quit putting flat screen TV's in elevators and pay your employees what they are worth. A 0.40 raise is absolutely unacceptable considering how hard we work for you.
