Some sales reps had unfair advantages in terms of reserving new business accounts. This was not addressed by management and put everyone else in sales at a disadvantage.

    Pros

Great opportunity for advancement, decent training.

    Cons

VP is absolutely clueless, expectations are unrealistic for a dinosaur product.
Who uses a phone book anyway? Manage by fear is not the best way to manage.

    Advice to Management

If your so good and were able to advance, then train and spend equatible time with all sales reps... Stop illustrating favoritism.

    Pros

Work from mobile office, set your own appointments, take care of personal business when needed, art(production) department pretty good most of time.

I worked at Valley Yellow Pages (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Huge commissions when closing accounts

    Cons

Would switch accounts to more favored employees. Did it w/ an old customer of mine I brought to company, thinking I wouldn't know. Management is super stubborn unless it was their idea. Does not live in realistic world and thinks 80's technology will survive today. Will pitch ideas and be immediately be put down. Then 6-12 months later, upper management would repeat same idea and be applauded. Management protects their friends within company and will terminate staff not based off of skills & work but how much they kissed up to management.

    Advice to Management

Out w/ the old and in the with new is what will save your company. As you guys are beating a dead horse w/ your practices and ways of doing business.

I have been working at Valley Yellow Pages full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The company has provide every tool imagineable for their account executives to be successful selling print advertising. I really do feel that there isn't a better Yellow Page directory to work for.

    Cons

It is very difficult to generate income in many of the markets they are in. Competition (YP) has sold their advertising in the directory area of their business at deeply discounted prices. The number of existing accounts has greatly diminished over the last 5 years.

    Pros

Being able to work out in the field. Meeting business owners one on one.

    Cons

Expect you out in the field 100%, frowned on being in the office even to make and set appointments.

    Advice to Management

Business owners prefer to meet with a set appointment. Print Media is now a very small part of a business owners overall marketing budget. Need more Internet/SEO gen options.
