    Pros

Merging of two companies, lots of change.
    Opportunity for growth is minimal

I worked at Verso full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good pay. Continuous improvement processes are a focus. Mills are positioned in rural settings (if this is desirable). Lack of available financial means drives creativity.... but is very very very stressful.

    Cons

Company assets are positioned to produce products in a dying segment of the industry. Changing the assets to produce products in growth segments requires a lot of capital investment and a long-term strategic plan... neither of which the organization has. Acquisitions/corporate culture and subsequent exodus of quality staff has resulted in a system of decision makers that aren't necessarily the best equipped to be leaders.

    Advice to Management

Stay committed to transparent and proactive communication and the safety of all.

    Pros

Great people (not corporate managers), or at least the few that are left

    Cons

Toxic work environment. My way or the highway mentality.

    Advice to Management

Find new jobs so that replacement managers may salvage what you have been destroying for the past 5 years.

I worked at Verso (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Salary, benefits, time off and company car.

    Cons

Toxic work environment. If you are not someone from the original group you are considered an outsider. Some managers have no business managing people. My way or the highway attitude - no collaboration.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. You might learn something.

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at Verso full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Verso is committed to safety. The company likes consistency across all it's operations. Company likes to put people first. Company employs union labor.

    Cons

Company is making a product in a market that is shrinking and has tough sales competition. Recently, the company has emerged from bankruptcy, so future decisions may reflect guidelines from that event.

    Advice to Management

Verso needs to review middle management. There still seems to be a "good, old boys club" that is holding the company back. Company needs to continue to depend on its union force, for work that is consistent and productive.
