I worked at Vision Express full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Facilities are good, staff area, pension, bullying and equal opportunity policy usually well used

    Cons

Lack of caring and professionalism on the shop floor. Skills and experience not valued. Over-reliance on KPI's and desperation to take money and sell stuff the customer doesn't need. Sunday working without staff to cover.

    Advice to Management

Stop relying on shouty emails, listen to what staff think about their jobs before they leave, stop using "BOMs" to reach targets

I have been working at Vision Express full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Challenging environment, possible career progression. Customer’s satisfaction is key. Professional team is up to high standards.

    Cons

Management changing constantly affecting other employees and customers wellbeing, customer complaints are dealt by non professionals in head office and so they just want to satisfy the customer no matter how. Company doesn’t realise how important is to keep the knowledge within the company so they don’t try to keep the senior employees. Head office staff are most of the time not trained properly so sometimes they are not help at all. Poor product assortment, slow system.

    Advice to Management

Try to keep senior memebers with un valuable knowledge and experience, you are not dealing with clothing but people’s eye health!

I worked at Vision Express full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    decent benefits but nothing special

    Cons

lack of leadership and clear training.

    Advice to Management

i joined from an it recruitment agency where my training was 10x greater and had coaching from day one till i left. i was naive enough to think it would be the same and when expressing my concerns was told not a right fit for the company. I have now left and moved into a better job in which L&D is encouraged and management is far better qualified and trained

I have been working at Vision Express full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Learn how NOT to do "things"
    Meet nice people, of course

    Cons

Not valuable training for new employees, who are left there to make mistakes with the consequences of complains who seniors employees need to solve and obviously, good people leaves asap. Business philosophy unknown. IT system obsolete. Can't see any intention of improve the processes who are wrong.

    Advice to Management

Sit around a table, look at each others eyes be honest with yourself and admit that organisations and processes are wrong and not suitable for the business. Create a new company philosophy and share it with all the employees starting from the bottom, build up new valuable training system including "customer services" concepts. CHANGE YOUR OBSOLETE IT SYSTEM! IT'S 2017! Train Management some MANNERS and Leadership skills. Pay a bit more the optical assistant.

I worked at Vision Express full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great progression within first year!
Majority of staff are nice and welcoming.
Newer store look good (but need to invest to get all stores there, to look united)

    Cons

    No progression/training after.
Don't deliver on what was agreed.
Have very little respect of dispensing optician thinks they are unnecessary, not even considering anything into my pay for this! But still expect the DO job to be done!
Very KPI lead day to day, rather than looking at bigger week by week.
As a store manager a lack of communication or anything from regionals. Until something isn't going right. But when you need something they couldn't care less. Is that fair?
Retail staff underpaid for what is expected of them, it's not like any other retail job!
Expected to work more than contracted hours, and you will never see them back!

    Advice to Management

Respect your staff, do what you say you will do. Don't take them for granted. Value your staff and offer everyone support and career progression. Not just those at the lower end.

I have been working at Vision Express full-time

    Pros

I love my job as such. VE offer good career opportunities on a more junior level and good training if your manager decides to find time to send you for it.

    Cons

Pay is not transparent enough you have to bargain for your life to get anything decent. And then find out that someone else with less experience is getting paid more.
Expectations are very high especially in more challenging stores and on more senior positions e.g. Team leader upwards - you're expected to work all hours and not get your time back or get paid for it(of course unless your manager is lovely and lets you take time back).
Very different rules for different people. One is allowed to work set days set shifts and another one told - no!
Bonus structure very complicated and complex.
Most stores are very understaffed most of the time.

    Advice to Management

More uniform rules, better pay and bonus structures, family values.

    Pros

Offer of career progression and training if you want it. Visible management who visit stores. Some really good designer brands

    Cons

Staff shortage in store makes it almost impossible some days then get customer complaints as you can't get to the phone. Pressure to hit more and more targets.

    Advice to Management

Listen while we work for you not as we're leaving. I think with all the constant changes they've lost their identity.
