I worked at Visual Graphic Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Most of your coworkers are great!

    Cons

Too many to list but here are a few:
    - abusive senior staff
    - ALL four partners are complete children
    - Very deceptive and dishonest hiring tactics
    - Incompetent senior management
    - complete lack of direction and vision
    - This company is a rudderless ship that will not survive

    Advice to Management

Close the doors and go get some managerial experience.
Learn how to treat the people that make your money for you and realize that the vast majority know far more about your business than of the partners.
Start paying your bills on time.

I worked at Visual Graphic Systems full-time

    Pros

    VGS has fair creative capabilities

    Cons

With 5 owners, there are no clear goals and cash flow always seems to be an issue

    Advice to Management

Develop a business plan that makes short term and long term sense and staff accordingly. Times have changes and so have skills required to compete.

    Pros

Opportunity to learn really fast and take on a lot of responsibility. Can easily access all levels of the company.

    Cons

The management say its a family, but do not actually treat their employees that way. Resources available to you are limited, and you often feel exploited.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your employees, treat them well, and they will take care of you. Everyone actually wants to perform well, but do not feel as if you actually care for them.

I worked at Visual Graphic Systems full-time

    Pros

Great if you're an clock watcher & like to leave on time as overtime appeared to be prohibited. Majority of the staff were friendly & easy To get along with.

    Cons

Disorganized & unprofessional, lower end of salary spectrum. Not a particularly pleasant location, gas station right next door & motel across the street that seems to cater to the *hourly rate*... Not up to date with office technology. Very loud office, lots of yelling, everyone defers to the partners & CEO has attitude issues.

I worked at Visual Graphic Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some great co-workesr willing to go the extra mile.

    Cons

Unclear and unorganized system of client service. Infantile and self-absorbed partners who make business very difficult to conduct. Little concern for what the clients are looking for as opposed to what's best for VGS. Billing dept is unorganized and mistakes are commonplace. Attempts by clients to have issues and errors by VGS is painfully slow.

    Advice to Management

Start treating people with respect. Understand that you are not the only ones who should benefit from hard work. Too many cooks! Very little consistency...

    Pros

Low to mid level employees can work there forever. Just keep your head down and don't expect too much along the lines of career or income growth.

    Cons

Downright nasty and mean-spirited management team. You must justify your existence in terms of how you benefit the partners. They are the shareholders and you are simply viewed as a means to an end for them. This does not lead to fulfillment or a sense of job satisfaction.

    Advice to Management

You have set up an organizational structure that is unhealthy and will not foster the growth you so desperately want. Treat your people well and they will go to the mat for you. Eliminate angry outbursts in the office environment - they hurt people deeply in ways that impact their performance. Show that you care about their personal success and you'll find that they will propel your business to greater heights (e.g. they will make you more money). You reap what you sow.

I have been working at Visual Graphic Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible hours, highly dedicated team members, highly experienced team, high visibility client list and project portfolio. Excellent product output, when properly designed out of house.

    Cons

Long hours, no training, it is a sink or swim environment. Excessively hostile work environment, executives should have mandatory anger management therapy to hold their positions on a continuous basis. Salaried employees are expected to work indefinitely to complete job duties without adequate resources at their disposal to be able to complete duties within an average work day. 12 hour work days should be expected upon occasion, but it is the norm for several strung out burnt out employees. Meanwhile junior designers are playing with paper airplanes when no one is watching and shopping in Amazon.

    Advice to Management

Tone down the hostile environment, in a big way. Never have I worked at such a place with so much yelling between partners and chastising of staff, in front of peers and subordinates. Respect is a two way street. Your egos are so big you can't see the forest from the trees, and when problems arise, instead of taking a collaborative approach to resolving them, it is a constant blame game. Reactive sweeping policy changes without gathering all facts hurts the business and frustrates employees to the point that they do not know what the rules are on any given day. Implement a strategy for employee training in-house and out-of-house. PM job pool needs more relevant experience prior to hiring, not kids out of college. Ownership oversimplifies job duties and has led to unbalanced resources. There are six heads in design but only two heads in project management. Projects requiring management are left to community oversight in production, operation, and shipping/logistics. Often too much responsibility is assumed taken on by parties by executives without their explicit knowledge. Bring in an efficiency expert to evaluate job duties and responsibilities.
