I have been working at WMU part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Freedom of work, decent labs, knowledgeable adviser, helpful personnel. A good place to work but you would feel the need to move one after couple years.

    Cons

Lack of fund! facilities are good but some times they don't work only because new projects either need money or relationships. An applicant for grad study should choose their adviser very carefully.

    Advice to Management

Some professors are not motivated enough to run the projects. They just hold the system back. This encouragement usually happen after the tenure ship. I guess management should make them tenure more carefully.

    Pros

    Friendship
    Great atmosphere

My experience was truly life changing. Amy, Chris, Jen, Darin and the rest of the professional staff go above and beyond to identify projects that align the GA's with talents and add to their skill set. We had excellent bi-weekly staff meetings and became good friends over the course of the two year appointment. I highly recommend this institution for anyone interested in joining the WMU community.

    Cons

    None
    Teamwork
Need more continuous training platforms for those who wish to be a part of multiple departments

    Advice to Management

Keep including everyone in the discussion and help empower students to reach their full potential!

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

Good benefits; not as good as they used to be.

    Cons

Recent furloughs have caused some angst; chances for advancement without religious education are not favorable. Layoffs mean additional work on current staff.

    Advice to Management

Today's publishing environment is so different from what it was 10, 20, 30 years ago. To really stay "in the game" this company needs to investigate ways to move forward in the online world.
