Darling I’m a nightmare dressed like a daydream
Pros
Learning about exotics, made some friends, doctors really care about the animals
Cons
Little pay, rvt license means nothing to them (I was literally told “you’re not an rvt”)more time spent cleaning than with animals, every mistake you make is treated like the end of the world and you’re lucky if they let you try a task you previously messed up on again, one “technician” was eager to train me then went behind my back to tell the manager all the skills I lacked. She made my life a nightmare and I dreaded the days I had to work with her. She was always stressed out and taking it out on me. She also treated me like I was stupid if I didn’t understand something the first time. She doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon so good luck if you work with her. Unfair treatment, the amount of time you have been there does not mean they will train you sooner. There is a lot of confusion on what you’re allowed to do in your role and people are constantly telling you different ways to do things. You will be reprimanded if you don’t fold the laundry in a specific way. You will be the chosen one to bag dead animals and go to the laundromat when the washer or dryer is broken. It’s you that has to clean up all the diarrhea and vomit. Favorites are played and there is little room for growth for a beginner. Many “technicians” (I put that in quotes since few of them are licensed) will be standing around talking and laughing while you are expected to do the closing list alone. If you are hired as a veterinary assistant, you should intend to be treated as a janitor that gets to hold animals on occasion.
