Pros

Blue collar Customers are cool. Blunt, face tattoos but really cool down to earth people. I loved helping them. Nice product, good quality that I felt great about selling and wearing.

Cons

Want a raise? Get told "NO absolutely not!!" Like you are a bad dog. Get paid less than your subordinates then told "you are in your range" when you say something. They expect 110% all of the time. But won't pay 110%. There is no such thing as an open door policy. HR is on the side of the employer. I was given a final write up for insubordination by HR and the district manager when I was reported concerns about many sexual harassment incidents from my boss by my colleagues. I was told I should have made my colleagues be quiet, swept everything under the rug about any concerns, because their opinions don't matter. That I should have defended my store manager no matter what he did because my job was to defend my store manager no matter what he did. That especially "my opinions about my store manager don't matter" Even if it was commenting on customers and commenting on colleagues relationships in a way that made them very uncomfortable. I guess that's their values. Didn't meet your KPIs (metrics). Get written up. I had 3 active final write ups when I left for not meeting metrics. I had 7 total over the years. Didn't smile enough? Not chipper and bubbly? Get yelled at that you are a terrible role model and a terrible sales person. Get asked if you even want this job. Sick for 3 days even though you notified your manager each day bright and early 3-5 hours before your shift? Suspended. No notification to get a doctor's note, just suspended. If you aren't an ASM or SM you will not get health coverage or PTO. And you will be put on the crap list if you call out sick at all. They only consider promotion to those who come in sick and go to other stores at every opportunity. The amount of times that I heard that we should fire people or make them quit after they call out sick was insane. I would be pressured into coming in even when I expressed that I was throwing up or couldn't get out of bed without feeling terrible. "But we don't have anyone else. You need to come in" You want to take PTO? Not in oct, Nov, Dec, Jan. Those are blackout months. And expect your store to call you in on your vacation and have it cancelled. Also if it's more than a day of vacation, it doesn't matter how far in advance it is, it will be denied because "we can't afford for you to be out that long" The sales expectations are aggressive. They expect you to be on top of the customer like it's commission. But there is no commission, just increasing punishment if you don't. Expect people (especially the DM & TSM) to talk crap about you if you call out sick or anything else unfortunate happens. They will tell every store manager they can and you will get other store managers judging and treating you differently thinking you are truant and lazy. Come in at 5am to do inventory in some 3 hour away city? Not bubbly and happy? The TSM will berate you to your manager saying you have an attitude and need a talking to about conduct. Also they WILL NOT feed you or give you coffee. When I did inventory I was hungry for hours and expected to buy my own food. Then given a talking to about "looking tired and out of it". I am NOT an overnight worker. No raise this year. Not just me, no one got raises. Not a good sign. They keep closing stores too so don't expect to take on a new store at any point like they say in the interview. They love to lie. I went through 6 store managers in 7 years. 2 of them were fired for good reason and 3 of them quit quickly after being treated as subhuman and not trained at all. They said they had never been treated with so much disrespect by their bosses in their 10+ years of retail and I believe them.
