I worked at Workiva (More than a year)

    Pros

Fantastic place to learn modern day software development skills and methodologies. Culture was new age and relaxed. Great place to learn as an college intern.

    Cons

Sometimes it's tough to avoid work following you home at times, with the laptop they provide to devs. However, this not pushed by management.

    Advice to Management

I worked at Workiva full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - cool offices
    - free food
    - somewhat flexible work schedule
    - game room

    Cons

    - Extremely inexperienced middle management
    - Total boys club environment where you only advance if you're part of their group
    - Culture is significantly declining
    - Too much nepotism, including with executives
    - Pay is way below local and national averages
    - Everyone is treated different and held to different standards depending on whether you're friends with certain groups. Very reminiscent of high school.

    Advice to Management

    - Watch your managers more closely. They don't know what they're doing.
    - Find a way to get an accurate picture of how employees feel, they're is some major discontent
    - Have a structure for advancement. Itcan't be promotions just based on who you're friends with anymore.
    - Fix the culture. It used to be amazing but it is rapidly declining.

I have been working at Workiva full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Great environment filled with smart & driven people
    - Amenities (Gym, cafe, snacks)
    - Open workspace (Standing desks)
    - Flexible with working remote (They provide laptop)
    - Open communication from my boss. Frequent 1 on 1 meetings. No surprises
    - Promotes good work/life balance (probably depends on which team you're on)
    - Average age is young (22-35)

    Technical
    - Modern technology stack (Dart, Go, Python) depends on team
    - Code review process is beneficial
    - Practices continuous deployment

    Cons

    - No 401K match
    - Monthly pay periods

    Technical
    - Documentation sometimes in multiple places (working to fix this though)
    - Occasionally duplicated efforts stemming from unclear communication
    - Security precautions due to being a public company can sometimes be a hold up (rightfully so)

    Advice to Management

I see a lot of negative feedback about management on other reviews. I think the main problem was miscommunication (specifically in R&D) but they've been working to fix this with some restructuring of management. I haven't had these issues with my direct manager, but the communication from the top down hasn't been the clearest at times. Hopefully these changes will resolve that.

I have been working at Workiva full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The culture is unbeatable. So much so that you would be willing to ignore a lot of other flaws. You don't find a company like Workiva every day. It's a very progressive company that listens to employees and customer concerns to improve for the better. Amazing product that is easy to sell. Flexible hours and great work life balance.

    Cons

Lack of transparency in contract terms. There is a draw that is given to you is taken back as though it was a loan. There should be a more clear path to success and advancement. Sometimes when speaking internally things can definitely take far too long. Contract and invoicing situation is kind of a mess.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing. This company is constantly working to improve things and put it's employee's first. Is it perfect? No job is going to be that. What I love here is that you all listen and adjust to accommodate your employees. That is rare to find.
