Pros

The colleagues are exceptionally pleasant and extraordinarily cooperative.

Cons

Intensely High-Stress Environment: The work environment is overwhelmingly stressful, with an unrelenting and exorbitant pace that is mistakenly considered normal until one experiences a more balanced company. Everyone is constantly pushing themselves to the absolute limit. Complete Lack of Safety and Trust: The excessively strict no-gossip policy creates an atmosphere where employees feel utterly unsafe to speak freely. There is a false reflection of 'good culture'. In actual fact, one must be extraordinarily cautious about everything they say, as it invariably reaches the founder, leading to immediate blacklisting. Grossly Ineffective Management: The mandatory one-on-one meetings with managers are often futile, as many lack the essential skills or experience. Many managers are entirely new, and employees feel like mere guinea pigs in their ill-conceived experiments. Appallingly Poor Compensation and Benefits: The remuneration is dismally low, akin to that of a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME), with no guaranteed bonuses or 13th-month pay. Medical benefits are minimal, and the company seems to ruthlessly exploit employees for the salaries they pay. Exceptionally High Turnover: Employees are frequently and abruptly terminated, creating significant job insecurity. Managers are perpetually overwhelmed with their workload due to the alarmingly high turnover. Relentless Micromanagement: There is pervasive and relentless micromanagement at every level and in every department. Excessive Cost-Cutting Measures: The company is extremely frugal, implementing draconian cost-cutting measures wherever possible. Despite budget constraints, the company continues to open new branches each year without fairly compensating staff for their extraordinary hard work.

Hi there, thank you for taking the time to write this valuable feedback. We appreciate that you enjoyed working with the people at Write Edge. We work hard to build a culture where people enjoy working together. A few thoughts: Write Edge has grown 30% year on year over the past four years, and I am incredibly proud of our team – we couldn't have achieved this without each team member. With such growth and as an SME, we acknowledge that there can sometimes be higher demands and limited resources. We are committed to providing the resources needed to help our team maintain a healthy work-life balance. We have increased our headcount by 20% across all departments over the past year. Yes, you are correct. The leadership team has low tolerance for gossip. Gossip undermines trust, collaboration, and overall morale of the team. Open communication helps us address problems quickly and ensures everyone feels valued and heard. I am sorry to hear that you did not feel your concerns were heard or that you did not feel you had a safe platform to raise what you clearly felt strongly about to me or the leadership team. We are not perfect, but we are committed to building a stronger organisation. My heartfelt thanks for being part of our journey and for your contributions to Write Edge. I did not address every point here in detail but feel free to reach out to me directly at nic@write-edge.com if you would like to speak further. Thanks once again for taking time to write this feedback so we can reflect on how to do better. Nicolette Write Edge Co-founder and Director

Hi, Thank you, for taking the time to share with us your feedback. High turnover is always a challenge, and we understand the impact it can caused on the team and company culture. As we are scaling and expanding, we monitor the attrition number very closely and we have been successful in keeping the attrition number to below 3% every month. To improve employee welfare, Write Edge has rolled out many new initiatives in the past year such as, Team Bonding, Cross-functional Meetings, Teacher Huddles, Teacher Bonding Events. With these and future programs, coupled with our continuous feedback system, we hope to continue keep our employee engagement and retention healthy. We noted on your feedback on back to back classes and high pressure to retain students, we will look into this to see how we can better improve and prioritise our teacher welfare. We encourage you to reach out to us directly with any specific suggestions or concerns you may have. Your input is invaluable as we work towards creating a better experience for all our employees. Pros

- Good colleagues and supportive reporting officer - That's about it

Cons

- CEO does not care about staff wellbeing, Teachers Day is miserable for teachers who work so hard but yet the CEO does not even care - Student incentive and rewards are out of teachers pockets because management does not give a damn about their students - Teacher turnover faster than I change clothes, cannot even maintain staff because salary is too low, even KFC staff are paid more - Timesheet format is terrible, so manual and ridiculous - Curriculum development is mediocre, teachers have to close the learning gaps because child's ability cannot reach expectations - Some management staff can be highly apathetic and ignorant - Company expands too fast - Nicolette Ng needs to pay more attention and be more sympathetic to her staff

Hi, Thank you for your valuable feedback. We understand the important of employee welfare, and we are putting focus on team's experience to ensure all needs are met. It's disheartening to learn about any part of your experience that didn't meet expectations. We apologise if our efforts have not fully aligned with your expectations. Write Edge is committed to creating a supporting environment for all our employees to ensure that they are valued and respected. As Write Edge grows, we're actively exploring ways to improve employee welfare and benefits. Notably, we've introduced Teacher's Bonding Sessions for enhanced personal connections outside work and are looking into having telehealth services as a future medical benefit. Additionally, our revised hybrid work model aims to provide teachers with more flexibility and sufficient rest, ensuring a better wellbeing for our employees. In regards with the turnover rate, as we are scaling and expanding, we monitor the attrition number very closely and we have been successful in keeping the attrition number to below 3% every month. We ensure that our salaries are in line with market rates for our full-time, contract, and part-time employees. Our salary rates are transparently listed on MyCareersFuture. To maintain fairness, we conduct internal salary review to ensure all employees are compensated appropriately and in accordance with market standards Your feedback is invaluable in our ongoing efforts to create a positive and fulfilling work environment at Write Edge.
