I worked at eSolar full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible hours, good pay, great people, nice office environment. I was able to travel to China and Australia in support of their first commercial project.

    Cons

They can't seem to secure the funding needed to keep the company afloat. I am afraid that their first commercial project will be their last.

I worked at eSolar (More than a year)

    Pros

Had the opportunity to work with some great people. The concepts for renewable energy were inspiring and gave you a sense that you could do something worthwhile for the environment.

    Cons

Poorly managed. You never knew if it would be the last week you were working there. The sense of anxiety and insecurity made morale very low. Even when someone has many years of management experience, they are silenced by college kids who suck up to the upper management. The openness for new ideas is lacking unless you went to a prestigious school and you talk about how great the upper management is.

    Advice to Management

Listen to all of your employees. There are excellent ideas out there waiting to be heard. If you only listen to a select few, you are doing yourself and the company a disservice. There is plenty of dead weight that can be trimmed for economic reasons.

I worked at eSolar full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I was there in the early days and I would have done this job for free — it was that stimulating, fun, exciting, and expansive.

    Cons

Decision-making and change of executive team leadership

    Neutral Outlook

    I worked at eSolar full-time

    Pros

Some talented people, but most of them leave as they see how the company operates. Usually pay well. Decent employee package. High tech environment and projects. Possible wealth through stock options.

    Cons

Have to understand this is a "startup" and they live investment to investment. Management has "favorites." If you like to play politics rather than doing actual work you may fit in very well. Stock options will probably never pan out because management can manipulate at the last minute. Go in for the salary you want because that is all you will probably ever get.

    Advice to Management

No advice because they would not take it anyways. They know everything already.

"Innovative CSP concept company, unfortunately being led by incompetant leadership"

    Pros

Mostly what others have pointed out about food...

A very good Solar Tower (CSP) concept that has a very solid business potential, only if it was in the hands of the right leadership team. The work is interesting and challenging at times.

    Cons

Management loves to hire graduates from a selected list of name brand schools, and then places them in key positions with little or no real world experience. If you are not a graduate from the management selected short list of pet schools, then chances are that you will be frustrated, even if they do hire you. Equal opportunity and upward mobility seems to be resrved for pet school graduates.

The team morale is also low because of lack of clear business strategy and almost incompetant leadership.

    Advice to Management

If you want this company to grow and compete with the rest, then kindly throw away this notion that only graduates of a samll list of your pet schools are smart enough and capable enough to work and solve the challenging problems. Smart minds exist everywhere if you look with an open mind. Create a climate of true diversity in your hiring process and also in the way you select and promote candidates for leadership positions.
