This February, we celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth, an annual event dedicated to honoring the triumphs and challenges of African Americans in our country. At AMH, we take this opportunity to amplify the voices of our Black and African American colleagues, and reflect on the journey ahead as we continue to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion at our organization. Today, we launch the celebration with a testimonial video featuring Moe Ali, chair of our Black and African American Employee Resource Group, who shares his personal reflections on the Black experience in the U.S. and at our organization.
This week, The Atlantic published a piece on the single-family rental industry, addressing misconceptions about the impact of professional owner-operators on #housing affordability and exploring the root cause of America’s housing crisis: a shortage of approximately 3.8 million units, based on Freddie Mac estimates. “Housing is primarily unaffordable in this country because of persistent undersupply. A lack of supply is caused by a complex web of rules and regulations that prevent developers—profit and nonprofit alike—from building enough housing to meet demand. For decades the United States has been underbuilding in employment hubs… pushing prices up.” AMH is proud to rank among the country's leading homebuilders for two consecutive years, delivering high-quality homes during a national housing shortage. Thank you to all our Texas team members who participated in this year’s #ToysforTots fundraiser. Together, we collected 300+ toys to deliver to children living in poverty across the U.S., so they, too, could experience joy these holidays. We’re grateful for our team's generosity and dedication to giving back to the community year-round.
We’re proud to be recognized as one of America’s Most Responsible Companies of 2023 by Newsweek and Statista for the second year in a row. Ranking members are determined by evaluating company performance in advancing sustainability and ESG. The #housing landscape in 2022 has appeared riddled with contradictions. In this backdrop of uncertainty, we’ve focused on continuing to do what we do best: provide a reliable, accessible alternative to residents across the country looking for home. In this month’s newsletter, we look back on a year of doubling down on our strategy of steady supply growth and continued investment in our people to provide stability to those who rely on us. Read our year in review here:
Last month, our teams banded together to give back this holiday season, working to clean up their communities and pack dry goods for families living with food insecurity. Collecting over 200 pounds of trash, our Las Vegas group teamed up with Get Outdoors Nevada to beautify nature trails locally. In Calabasas, our Legal team filled boxes of non-perishable food items with Children’s Hunger Fund, which will be distributed across the U.S. as part of their “Project Food Pak” initiative to provide nutrition to children in need. Thank you to our colleagues who participated in these events to deliver goodwill to our neighbors around the country!
