There's no set formula for a career at Anglo American. Bafokeng Khoali's journey started in Johannesburg, before taking him to Singapore and London. "I joined Marketing straight from university in a new team responsible for integrated planning and logistics. Supported by my managers and HR, I’ve had opportunities to broaden my experience through a variety of ways including courses, secondments and mentoring as I work towards my aim of becoming a trader. I am proud to work for Anglo American with a highly talented and experienced global team. Support, both formal and informal, is exceptional."
#LifeAtAngloAmerican is incredibly diverse thanks to the variety of communities we work within. Building strong relationships with these communities is crucial for every project.
At Anglo American, support for our employees extends beyond the workplace. That's why we've created WeCare, a framework designed to protect both our workforce and our communities. Domestic violence is a harsh reality faced by many across the globe. But this doesn't have to be the case. Living With Dignity is a core pillar of WeCare, supporting women through gender-based violence. By partnering with health authorities and charities, we can better identify women at risk of violence and provide for their needs, whether that's by creating safe spaces and shelters, or directing them towards relevant support services and resources. Raising awareness also plays a crucial role in putting an end to domestic violence.
As a historically male-dominated industry, at Anglo American, we have a responsibility to implement changes that address gender inequality in mining. Liz Douglas, our Head of HR is responsible for driving these changes, such as tackling the gender pay gap. That's why by 2023, our target is to increase female representation across our Executive Committee to 33%. We strive to create a more inclusive workplace in which all of our colleagues can achieve their full potential.
What makes a great mining engineer?
“Anglo American has continued its strong operational recovery, with a 24% increase in production compared to Q2, whilst maintaining comprehensive measures across our operations to safeguard the lives and livelihoods of our workforce and host communities." says Mark Cutifani, Chief Executive of Anglo American.
In light of the COVID-19 crisis, mental health at work and at home is now even more of a priority. We have created the WeCare programme consisting of four main pillars, one of which is mental health. This builds on our existing mental health and wellbeing resources to make sure we can all access the tools and reassurance to help us cope with stress and uncertainty brought on by current circumstances. Our aim is to prevent, respond and recover, something that we will do together.
Hydrogen has become big news in the energy world. At Anglo American, we are taking 'big' to the next level by advancing plans for hydrogen fuel cell trucks at our mine sites.
Our people have always been our priority, which is why we have created WeCare, an extensive health awareness and support programme designed to safeguard our people during the COVID-19 pandemic. WeCare combines our core values of safety, care and respect, integrity, accountability, collaboration and innovation with practical measures to ensure our people and communities throughout the world not only survive but thrive in the wake of this crisis
