March is National Women’s History Month. As we reflect on the impact women have made in healthcare, we are overcome with gratitude for the incredible women who paved the way for the women employed at BSA Health System. In 1901, four brave nuns from the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word came to Amarillo with the mission of caring for patients in a small brick building, which soon became St. Anthony’s Hospital. With no electricity, gas, running water or telephone, the nuns faced many hardships while tending to patients in the twelve unheated rooms. A typhus epidemic hit Amarillo in 1907, and the nuns worked alongside physicians to selflessly care for patients from all over the region. Their unwavering dedication and commitment to the 1,442 citizens of Amarillo earned the hospital a place of deep respect and appreciation in our community. BSA Health System is proud that our history and mission are built on the foundation laid by women who sacrificed and overcame challenges in order to provide quality care in Christian love, service and dignity.
BSA Health System received the Best Employee Loyalty Award from parent company Ardent Health Services. Presented annually, the Best Employee Loyalty Award recognizes the facility with the highest employee satisfaction and engagement from among 30 hospitals and more than 200 sites of care. “We are extremely proud to earn this recognition and could not be more grateful to our team members who made this possible,” said BSA Health System CEO Michael Cruz.
