On this day 148 years ago, Dr. Eduard Fresenius was born. As a young man he trained as a pharmacist and, in 1912, established the company Dr. Eduard Fresenius chemisch-pharmazeutische Industrie in Frankfurt – laying the foundation for today’s Fresenius Group. The original company’s focus was the manufacture of infusion solutions and other pharmaceutical products. Dr. Fresenius died suddenly in 1946, leaving his pharmacy and company to his 21-year-old foster daughter Else Fernau, who later became Else Kröner.

2021 was a challenging yet successful year for Fresenius: We delivered a strong final quarter and fully met our targets for the year. Both sales and net income increased by 5% in constant currency, while the number of employees grew to 316,078. In 2022 we expect continued profitable growth, despite rising inflation and the ongoing burdens caused by the pandemic.
Getting fit and having fun – and all for a good cause! In the autumn, Fresenius colleagues from a total of 55 countries raised money for charities and non-profits in the Fresenius Team Run 2021. Participants took selfies while they ran, walked or took part in some other sporting activity, then uploaded their picture to the Fresenius intranet; for every one received, Fresenius paid €10 into a donation pot. Fresenius Team Run 2021 participants nominated charitable organizations to share in the funds. Now, the final accounting: More than 70 charities, non-profits and public-service projects around the world have received a contribution. They include hospices, animal protection organizations, climate protection projects and various health initiatives. Some of them have thanked Fresenius with a picture of their own.
