"In Genesee County, 55 county residents die by suicide each year. To reduce these deaths, Genesee Health System worked with area community organizations to launch the Genesee County Suicide Prevention Coalition. The coalition meets monthly with the goal of providing community training and education, reducing stigma, and performing outreach to high-risk groups like veterans, youth, and older adults."

Genesee Health System along with Genesee County Prevention Coalition is hosting "Effective Strategies to Address Tobacco Disparities" a free training to increase awareness of the impact of tobacco on health outcomes for youth and people of color. Dante Jennings, Manager of Co-Occurring Service Integration at GHS and several of the conference speakers talk about the disparities and how to attend this free community training.

September is National Suicide Prevention Month, and mental health experts in Genesee County said on average, more than four dozen residents die by suicide each year.
