"We're moving our main campus from West 5th Avenue to the Old Baker College," says the CEO of GHS, Dan Russell. "We're going to be much more accessible. We're going to be able to serve a much broader population than we have in the past."
The Genesee County Hope Squad initiative is a local collaboration between GHS, GISD, and participating school districts. This program is partially funded by the Genesee County Mental Health Millage.
“One of the things I expressed and tried to get people to understand is that mental health is just as important as physical health, and especially for people of color," stated Dexter Clarke, GHS's Director of Faith-Based and Community Engagement Initiatives. “We are dealing with a lot of challenges. We deal with inequity in healthcare, in medical care and just social injustice. So, we have to find that balance." Read more.

Courtesy of an initiative to foster stronger connections between law enforcement and the community, the University of Michigan-Flint Department of Public Safety has partnered with Genesee Health System to receive specialized training in mental health de-escalation techniques.
Shawn Edwards, GHS Senior Director of Engagement, Diversity, and Inclusion speaks on Genesee Health System's no-wrong-door policy. “At GHS, we offer many options to help meet the needs of individuals in life. We do this in a way that feels right for the individual. So basically, we listen. We like to hear from people themselves as to what may be happening with them before diagnosing.”
Genesee County adults with disabilities are invited to the GHS Social Club on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9am to noon. The club will be expanding to include Fridays in July. Watch The CW46 interview with GHS's Director of Adult I/DD Services, Amy Johnson, for more information.
