In honor of Mental Health Action Day, Taylor Made Re-Entry along with GHS and several other Genesee County community partners conducted the very first mental health workshop in the Genesee County Jail. Over 600 men and women residing at the jail, as well as staff, benefitted from this resource day.

Genesee Health System is expanding services with its recent opening of an Outpatient Services location at 1513 S. Center Rd. The new location will begin providing services to uninsured residents of Genesee County, with plans to expand in the future. People who need outpatient services will meet with a licensed therapist to help work through mental health concerns. Services are offered on a sliding scale fee based on what the individual or family can afford.
In early February 2023, thanks to Genesee Community Health Center along with GHS and several community partners, a free Narcan vending machine debuted at Flint’s downtown MTA Station. Narcan is the brand name for naloxone nasal spray, a medication that reverses opioid overdose. In its first six weeks, the machine saw 904 Narcan kits distributed.
Many Genesee County residents with developmental disabilities, mental illness, behavioral health issues, or substance use disorders depend on Genesee Health System (GHS) for care. GHS also takes care of its employees. And for that, it has earned the Energage 2023 Top Workplaces USA award. The award is made solely on the basis of employee feedback. In 2022, Energage recognized GHS with its Top Workplaces Culture Excellence Recognition for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion award, and the Detroit Free Press honored it as a Top Workplaces regional/Michigan.
“What we do is we train Genesee County law enforcement officers on what do when responding to mental health-related calls," says Kailey Baker, Crisis Intervention Team Supervisor for Genesee Health System.
Genesee Health System has awarded grants totaling $200,700 to five local shelters in Genesee County to support health and wellness for vulnerable populations.
"We want to thank Congressman Kildee for his support in securing funds to plan and develop a psychiatry teaching health center. There is a significant need for psychiatrists in Genesee County, so this is a conversation we have been having locally for 20 years, and we are excited to be taking the first step. Having a teaching facility in Genesee County will allow additional access to these much-needed services,” said Danis Russell, CEO of Genesee Health System.
