Kathryn Rieger, PhD, Senior Director, Human Factors and User Research, leads the team that ensures every product Intuitive builds can be used in the safest and most effective ways possible. This of course requires rigorous research and curiosity. As Kathryn puts it, “A holistic approach to human factors allows us to ask big, hard questions. For example, we’re asking ourselves if good usability means reducing surgical times or increasing autonomy, or how much control a surgeon may want versus what’s automated.” In this story, you’ll hear from Kathryn on how the Human Factors team is proving what’s possible in every stage of the product development cycle, pushing the boundaries of user research to enable surgeons to help patients around the world. “The providers using our surgical systems trust us to deeply understand their every move, so they can focus on what matters most—the patient.” #provingwhatspossible
To celebrate the hard work, innovation, and contributions of our interns, we gathered this morning to network and socialize in Santa Cruz. We appreciate you, Intern Class of 2023! Your contributions are meaningful and your futures are bright.

To ensure the safety, efficacy, and success of Intuitive’s robotic platforms, the systems that manufacture our products must be as innovative as the products themselves. Our manufacturing engineers take up that challenge with passion and a fierce commitment to collaboration and continuous improvement. As a manufacturing engineer, you’ll bring your expertise and strong sense of ownership to intricate, complex problems—coming together with a supportive team to meet critical deadlines with huge impact. And you’ll feel such pride when something you helped build makes its way to a surgeon changing someone’s life. “It’s not just a normal 9-to-5 job,” Manufacturing Engineer Nicolai Stiefel says. “It’s really helping people and knowing that my work is needed.” Watch this video to see how manufacturing engineers are proving what’s possible at Intuitive.
