Leaders from across Methodist Dallas have been amazed as our clinical nurses have risen to the challenges 2020 has presented. It’s no surprise that our nurses continue to pursue excellence and strive for greatness. Please join us in congratulating our unit-level Clinical Nurse of the Year winners for their incredible accomplishments this year! They include Victoria Solis, Evelyn De O’Campo, Tete Donyo, Shenee Furlough, Camille Ory, Claire Moody, Mei Cheng, Ruth Rvalcaba, Dezorey Vahed, Jennifer Meeks, Jessica Barnes, Cathy Peterson, Charlene Demipindan, and Steve Herren. And finally, a big congratulations to the 2020 Clinical Nurse of the Year: Dezorey Vahed from neuro critical care!
For the past six months, at least five days a week, Rachel and Mark Kull have come to Methodist Dallas to clap for five minutes during the shift change in support of our staff. In return, employees have waved and given their thumbs-up, ambulance and firetruck crews have whooped their sirens, and one physician made a U-turn one night to express how much the ICU and ED teams appreciated them. We applaud the show of gratitude!
Zarah Rahman is a patient care technician at Methodist Richardson. She's also a compassionate soul who wanted to bring some comfort to patients whose visitors are limited due to the pandemic. So she raised $2,000 to make special care packages containing a soft blanket, pens, pencils, notebook, puzzles, and more. She found the secret to fighting the coronavirus blues: spread joy.
D CEO magazine released the finalists for its Excellence in Healthcare Awards, and Methodist appeared in seven categories! Our finalists: Methodist for Outstanding Community Outreach and Outstanding Medical Research; Methodist Midlothian for Outstanding Real Estate Deal; Jim Scoggin for Outstanding Hospital Executive; Jon Albrecht for Outstanding Health System Innovator; Dr. Jeffrey Butterfield for Outstanding Healthcare Practitioner; and Cindy Merren, Methodist Mansfield, for Outstanding Healthcare Volunteer. Congratulations, all!
Once again, Methodist has earned the 2021 Military Friendly® Employer, Silver award level. "Companies that have earned this designation have invested in substantive programs to recruit, retain, and advance veterans within their organizations," said Josh Rosen, director of Military Friendly. We're honored to have this recognition!

We can't help but be proud of Methodist Mansfield. It's among the top-ranked hospitals in Texs for having the lowest skilled nursing facility discharge rates for pneumonia hospitalizations. That mouthful just means that Methodist Mansfield is doing a good job taking care of pneumonia patients. Congratulations, Methodist Mansfield!
Hand sanitizer stations were installed in an area of Oak Cliff that has been hit hard by COVID-19, thanks to Marie Wilson, the infection prevention manager at Methodist Dallas, and Laura Motta Mena, the hospital's community director. The area had the highest number of people testing positive in Dallas County. It's good to give those who live there another weapon in the fight against the pandemic. See the story from "The Dallas Morning News."
