Last week at Outset, Dr. Gary Guthart, CEO of Intuitive Surgical joined our own CEO Leslie Trigg to kick off our Unplugged Speaker Series. Gary spoke about hiring talent that exceeds your own abilities, preparing yourself like an endurance athlete, the danger of nostalgia and the need for organizations to “molt” through time, and the value of iterating quickly and staying focused. Our VP of People, Stacey Porter spoke at LinkedIn's Learning Panel on Tuesday, 02/05. She shared her insights on the future of learning and how it can impact individuals in the organization. One of the experiences she shared was crowd sourcing leadership principles by asking employees what habits define a leader they would follow, and then building a leadership development program on those principles of followership. To bring learners along in an era of nano-attention spans Stacey advised that you make learning small, deeply concrete, and community specific, while “dripping” reinforcing content and application post-learning.
