As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact many of us, PRA Group remains focused on the well-being and safety of our consumers, employees, clients, and communities we serve. Since the beginning of this global outbreak, we’ve implemented new hardship provisions through our subsidiary, Portfolio Recovery Associates, LLC, to ensure we’re supporting our consumers to the best of our ability. We understand this is a difficult time and many people are experiencing financial distress.
PRA Group announced two new donations to support organizations aiding in COVID-19 relief and recovery efforts. A $25,000 donation to The CDC Foundation, supporting communities across the United States, has been matched by Lysol resulting in a $50,000 total contribution. PRA Group is also donating $25,000 to United Way South Hampton Roads to help meet local needs at its headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia. “Today, we are announcing a $50,000 commitment to The CDC Foundation and United Way South Hampton Roads to help mitigate the unprecedented public threat posed by the COVID-19 outbreak,” said Kevin Stevenson, president and chief executive officer of PRA Group. “Many people are facing serious challenges so it is imperative that we work together to aid local and national organizations working to protect our communities.”

PRA Group has been selected as this year’s Outstanding Corporation from the Association of Fundraising Professionals VA, Hampton Roads (AFP-HR) Chapter. The Outstanding Corporation award honors companies whose gifts and charitable activities enrich the Hampton Roads community. PRA Group was selected for its significant charitable giving, employee volunteer programs, and commitment to service. The company accepted its award at AFP-HR’s annual National Philanthropy Day on Tuesday, November 12, 2019.
In celebration of the spirit of Thanksgiving, PRA Group, Inc. continued its annual tradition of donating turkeys to local charitable organizations and hosting a turkey giveaway for all US-based employees. Shortly after the company’s founding in 1996, co-founders Steve Fredrickson and Kevin Stevenson began gifting turkeys and wine to employees ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. Now, though the company has grown by thousands of employees, it continues the tradition of gifting one full size frozen turkey, along with a bottle of wine or cider, to each employee located within the United States. As in past years, the company will also donate 394 turkeys to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore, the Judeo-Christian Outreach Center, River Oak Church, and Union Mission Ministries. “We’ve kept up this tradition for 23 years and we know this time of year isn’t easy for everyone so I hope our donations can help families in need in the Hampton Roads area.”
Kevin Stevenson, PRA Group president and chief executive officer, gave remarks at the Virginia Chamber Foundation’s 10th Annual Virginia Economic Summit on Friday, December 6, 2019. The Summit brought together more than 800 company executives, economic development leaders, and elected officials to discuss Virginia’s economic future. During the “Why Virginia? A Perspective from Virginia CEOs” panel, Stevenson told the story of how PRA Group started in Norfolk, Virginia to do things “the right way for the right reasons.” The company thrived due to its focus on long-term, sustainable growth and its commitment to reinvesting in the communities it operates in. “We set out to create a different kind of collection company,” said Stevenson. “One that strives for a culture of respect, collaboration and dignity towards our employees and our customers.”
On December 3rd, PRA Group was recognized by Communities in Schools‘ (CIS) as a recipient of their Lend a Hand Impact Award. The Lend a Hand Impact award highlights organizations for their ongoing community engagement and support of CIS and their mission. PRA has been an active partner with CIS Hampton Roads with the organization since its inception and has provided support through active participation, event sponsorships, and philanthropic support. PRA Group’s charitable giving supports Communities in Schools’ mission to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve their goals.
