We had a full house on Tuesday evening for our first ever sales networking event! Hosted by POLITICO Pro, our “Women in the Midterms” panel focused on how the female players in the upcoming elections will impact both business and policy. The panel featured Danica Stanciu, VP of Sales, Meredith McPhillips, Senior Managing Director of Strategic Partnerships, Heidi Sommer, Executive Director of POLITICO Live, Maggie Severns, POLITICO Pro Campaign Reporter, and Dale Bishop, Director and Chief of Staff. A huge thanks to our panelists and to all who attended!
POLITICOs take wellness seriously. Between our flexible vacation policy, the free gym in our HQ, yoga at lunch, and healthy cooking demos, we always want to make sure that POLITICOs are taking care of themselves. To kick of our 2nd annual Wellness Week, we had an assortment of activities to get employees excited about wellness. From SoulCycle rides to in-office yoga, we had a blast staying fit together all week long. Every day we had a healthy eating challenge! Employees had to eat a healthy snack matching the color of the day and post it to their social media page using the hashtag #politicowellness to be entered to win a NutriBullet. We started off with green on Monday. Tuesday’s challenge was to take more than 10,000 steps for the chance to win a pair of awesome wireless headphones. On Wednesday we had our wellness fair with over 19 vendors from the DMV area participating! On Thursday, POLITICO’s very own Thao Sperling, Technical Project Manager, taught us how to make a variety of Vietnamese salads. To wrap up the week, we enjoyed some fruit and juice from Fruitive.
Here at POLITICO, we know that our employees are relentless contributors. Whether they are scooping the latest story on the hill, designing our web page, or selling our product, POLITICOs do whatever it takes to get the job done. We honor that relentless contribution with a Flexible Vacation Policy. POLITICO encourages employees to take advantage of work-life balance. Therefore, POLITICO utilizes a flexible vacation policy to allow employees to have the time they need, while delivering expected job results. POLITICO does not define the amount of an employee’s vacation each year so that employees can achieve high levels of satisfaction, fulfillment, and productivity. This policy is based on mutual trust between the Company and employees, by giving employees opportunities to work or take time off, while ensuring that expected duties are successfully fulfilled to the level of excellence we expect at POLITICO. We are proud to offer this policy to our employees!
For the past four years, POLITICO has partnered with The Maynard Institute for Journalism Education and American University to bring twelve students into our newsroom as part of the POLITICO Journalism Institute. PJI is a two-week intensive program where students are partnered with a newsroom mentor, receive hands-on training and have the opportunity to see their work published by POLITICO. We are excited to announce that we are now accepting applications for our 2018 PJI cohort! Applications can be found here: http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vQH4K
People know POLITICO for its hard-hitting scoops coming out of our newsroom, but we wanted to take you behind the curtain and introduce you to some of the team that’s tasked with making the interfaces we consume our news on. Meet Chris Buddie, Ben Hong, Steven Stiles, and Christian Guirreri, creators on our front-end design & development team. They’re responsible for wireframing, coding, and designing for POLITICO – and that’s just to start. When they aren’t knocking out creative, you can find the team grabbing lunch from one of Rosslyn’s many food trucks. Head over to our blog to learn more about their team. http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vQRGr
This month on our blog we chatted with Jamie Oh, an Account Executive on our POLITICO Pro sales team. Our inaugural POLITICO Labs cohort was tasked with answering the following question: What is the next product POLITICO should offer its existing audience and/or new clients in 2018? Yesterday, Labs participants pitched their products to a team of executives who decided which would be the next product that POLITICO would invest in. Congratulations to Emily, Lily, Ashley and Christina for winning yesterday's competition after weeks of intense research and design. We are all looking forward to seeing the outcome of your hard work!
