In 2021, financial services organisations appeared very reluctant to contribute to open source, while consumption was “acceptable” rather than “encouraged” – you can read Colin Eberhardt's analysis of the State of Open Source in Financial Services survey results here https://bit.ly/2XHIoAR. Episode 6 of 'Beyond the Hype' is out! This month, Chris Price, Simon Martin and Robert Pilling discuss Rust – a programming language voted the ‘most-loved’ language seven years in a row in the StackOverflow survey. Is the hype justified? They discuss a wide range of topics, including what it means to be a system-programming language, what brought each of them to Rust, what makes a programming language successful and, in that light, what the future might hold for Rust. With a helpful bicycle metaphor thrown in for good measure! Listen to the episode by clicking the link below. We’re proud to be the technical delivery partner for The Scottish Government Payments Service. A key milestone was reached last month as the payments service moved into private beta. In this phase, the team will work with a limited number of early adopters to test and iterate the service before making it available to the broader public sector in Scotland. The team’s beta partner is Independent Living Fund Scotland which provides financial support to over 3,000 disabled people in Scotland and Northern Ireland to help them live independently. Given the critical importance of this funding, our consultants were passionate about ensuring the success of this first of many weekly Bacs payments to ILF Scotland recipients. Following this successful beta release, the team will release new service features monthly to deliver ongoing value to the Scottish Government and Scottish citizens. Read the full story here.
The glorious sunshine brought out all the colours of the rainbow at Bristol Pride 🌈 on Saturday, and a big group from our Bristol office went on the march, joined by friends and family. Everyone had a fantastic day, coming together with the wider LGBTQIA community in Bristol to promote self-affirmation, dignity and equality rights, and to celebrate sexual diversity and gender variance. Our Bristol team also raised money for the Bristol Pride charity during Pride Month through a bake sale! The donations from staff added up to £205 which was matched by Scott Logic, resulting in a £410 donation to Bristol Pride. The charity works all year round to challenge homophobia, biphobia and transphobia, and to promote equality and diversity for all.
