As Pride Month 2022 draws to a close, Beth Pritchard takes us on a whistle-stop tour of 'The Queer History of Technology'. In their post, they present some of the LGBTQ+ computer science pioneers, the technology they created, and the impact they have had on modern computing.
The State of WebAssembly 2022 survey results are in! And, as Colin Eberhardt explains, they make for fascinating reading. The use of wasm for serverless, containerisation and as a plug-in technology has leapt considerably, with WebAssembly System Interface (WASI) becoming ever more important. Having worked on many platforms and in many languages over more than a quarter of a century in enterprise-scale IT, Reg is not only interested in the dots blobs and squiggles that make up code, but in how applications are designed and delivered. Our Pride 🌈 event last Thursday, ‘Remember, Resist, Rise Up’, brought together a fantastic group of panellists—Ali Hannon, Laura Crow, Brian Renwick and Terry Brown—for a wide-ranging, moving and inspiring discussion facilitated by our CEO Stephen Foreshew-Cain. Today is the anniversary of the beginning of the Stonewall Riots in NYC in 1969. Alec McEachran, Principal Software Developer at KPV LAB Edinburgh and formerly of YouTube, will explain that in order to write code well, we have to pay attention to our code’s natural language. Writing code is about formalising algorithms that computers can execute, but it’s also about communicating ideas between you and your teammates.
