Our experts are finding new ways to change the game in sports medicine. In our state-of-the-art Movement Science Lab, the SAFE program is doing just that. SAFE stands for Sports-specific Assessment and Functional Evaluation. The program uses 3D motion capture technology — the same technology used to create special effects in movies and video games — to assess injury risk by studying the movements of young athletes. Our goal is to develop injury prevention tools that will reduce sport-related injuries in young athletes here and beyond, creating a new standard of care. Those who know us can see that Scottish Rite for Children is a truly special place. ❤️We asked staff from all over the organization why they love Scottish Rite, and they gave plenty of heartfelt answers. From the relationships with other staff to the joy of caring for patients and their families, there is so much that makes Scottish Rite one-of-a-kind. Hear what we love about our organization from our amazing team. We love our staff, our volunteers, and of course, our patients and their families!

We recently hosted The Perry Initiative's Perry Outreach Program! This one-day experience allowed high school junior and senior girls to participate in a thrilling, hands-on workshop focused on orthopedic surgery and engineering. The program aims to inspire more young women to pursue careers in these fields by highlighting some of the things they can accomplish, sharing advice from female mentors and more. We had so much fun getting to know these young ladies and seeing them tackle the surgical activities with style. Thank you so much to our very own Amy L. McIntosh, M.D., for representing Scottish Rite for Children and inspiring these future surgeons and engineers!
Dr. Jane S. Chung, Dr. Shane M. Miller and Dr. Jacob C. Jones are constantly working to better understand and treat young athletes with sport-related concussions. At the recent American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference & Exhibition, these experts shared their experience and knowledge with other pediatric professionals from around the world. Our team shared findings from their latest research, including potential disparities in concussion injury and management as well as how early access to specialty concussion care can improve treatment outcomes. The Scottish Rite for Children sports medicine team was awarded the second-place Oded Bar-Or Award for Best Research Presentation by the AAP Council on Sports Medicine and Fitness! We’re proud of our team for representing Scottish Rite for Children and working to improve the lives of our patients as well as children everywhere!
We’re shining a light on two wonderful members of the Scottish Rite for Children family - father and daughter duo, Albert and Emily! Albert began working for Scottish Rite in 2000 as a recreational therapist, and he shared the love of his work with his young daughter Emily through stories and visits to the Dallas campus. Inspired by the amazing things her father accomplished, Emily pursued a career of her own at Scottish Rite! She began working as a social worker in April 2022, and so far she has made quite an impact on the other staff throughout the organization. While Albert and Emily don’t directly work together, they enjoy seeing each other in the clinics, discussing their work days and sharing the amazing experience of serving children. ❤️
Throughout our history, Scottish Rite for Children has relied on the generosity of our volunteers to help us care for our patients and their families. From greeting our visitors with a smile and escorting patients to their appointments to sewing linens and ringing up items in the gift shop, our volunteers go the extra mile for our organization and, most of all, the children. Thank you to all our volunteers. We appreciate you! Want to join our team of amazing volunteers? Sign up now at http://spr.ly/6187MoWo7.
Our very own Dwight Putnam was featured on the front page of The Dallas Morning News! Dwight has been a prosthetist in our Orthotics & Prosthetics department for more than 15 years, transforming the lives of our patients by creating custom-made prosthetic devices that allow them to achieve their dreams. Our friends at Dallas Morning News caught up with a couple of Dwight’s patients, Elena and Lucas, to learn about his impact on their lives. Both Elena and Lucas shared their experiences with Dwight and what he has enabled them to do! Their stories aren’t unusual - Dwight is a fixture at Scottish Rite for Children and truly displays Scottish Rite’s mission of giving children back their childhood. We’re so grateful for Dwight, and all of our orthotists and prosthetists, who improve the lives of our patients every day. Thank you to reporter Marin Wolf and Dallas Morning News for shining a light on their important work! Read the full story for a heartwarming look into the importance of Dwight’s work.
