At a very young age, Kaden was diagnosed with arthrogryposis, a condition that caused him to have extremely stiff arms and made him unable to bend his arms. After several years of physical therapy to improve his movement in his home state of Florida, Kaden’s doctor referred him to see Dr. Scott Oishi at Scottish Rite for Children for other treatment options to help him continue making progress. Thanks to the hard work Kaden had been doing in therapy, Dr. Oishi said he was ready to undergo his first muscle transplant surgery. Six months after that, Kaden had surgery on his other arm. Now at age 7, Kaden is nearly free of any limitations! We love being a part of success stories like Kaden’s and seeing how far families come to receive our expert care. Are you looking for a career where you can be part of stories like Kaden's? Explore our open opportunities today! #ChangingLivesAtScottishRite
We’re proud to announce that we are teaming up with UT Southwestern Medical Center to add an accredited Sports Medicine fellowship program with a specialized pediatric focus to our education opportunities! Led by Dr. Ellis and Dr. Wilson, the program will take place primarily at the Scottish Rite for Children Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Center in Frisco. It is the first accredited program of its kind in the North Texas region and is one of a small number of subspecialty training programs that provides significant exposure to the care of young athletes. Fellows will receive in-depth training for managing common and complex conditions, such as ACL injuries, osteochondritis dissecans, patellar instability and more. They’ll also rotate with sports medicine surgeons at UT Southwestern for a well-rounded experience. We look forward to helping train future pediatric sports medicine experts! Margo earned a special painting after helping our patient Alexa through her recent spinal fusion surgery with Amy McIntosh, M.D. Following surgery, many of our patients are admitted to our inpatient unit. Margo makes rounds throughout the unit and attends to patients during their recovery, providing lots of love and comfort when it’s needed most. Margo really enjoys spending time with our patients, and Alexa and her sister Anna-Clara made a visit to Scottish Rite for Children to deliver the gift in person. We love seeing that Alexa was inspired to show how much Margo means to her through her art! 🐾❤️ Learn more about the Child Life services we offer our patients: https://scottishriteforchildren.org/becoming-our-patient/child-life-services

Four-year-old Allison began seeing our experts in April 2022 for difficulty using her left hand and arm due to cerebral palsy. Cerebral palsy is a group of disorders that affect movement, balance and posture. After visiting with hand surgeon Dr. Oishi, our team put together a plan for her to begin therapy with one of our hand occupational therapists. Allison visits with Amy Sitabkhan, OTR, on a regular basis to work on her skills in doing everyday tasks while using her left hand and arm more efficiently. Dr. Oishi says Allison has made a lot of improvement through her work with Amy. We’re big fans of 11-year-old Elena, and it’s not hard to see why! This talented young lady started visiting Scottish Rite for Children when she was 3-years-old. One of her legs was bent at a 90-degree angle, and after some long thought and discussion with her doctors, it was determined that amputation would be the best option for her and her family. Not long after her surgery, Elena was fitted with her very first prosthesis. Created by prosthetist Dwight Putnam, Elena’s new prosthetic leg allowed her to achieve anything she put her mind to. Throughout the years, Elena has continued to visit with Dwight and form a special bond with him. Together, they have been able to come up with solutions to serve her needs and match her desired activities. Elena loves to play outside, swim, do gymnastics, ride horses, play the piano and play the cello. There isn’t much that this determined girl hasn’t accomplished! Elena is a superstar, and we’re glad to have the privilege of treating her. 💖
