Today, a coalition of consumer groups has written to the Payment Systems Regulator outlining our concerns over the potential watering down of new mandatory reimbursement rules for bank transfer fraud. Alongside Age UK, National Trading Standards and Victim Support, Which? has urged the PSR to deliver a system of reimbursement that better supports APP (Authorised Push Payment) scam victims and incentivises the payments industry to prevent all types of fraud. Rocio Concha Galguera, Which? Director of Policy & Advocacy, attended the recent Conservative and Labour Party conferences, where she spoke with political and business leaders about our current consumer advocacy campaigns. She chaired two cross-sector roundtables one on improving consumer outcomes in the domestic energy efficiency market and the other exploring ways to more effectively regulate online platforms. Rocio also joined the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation & Technology Michelle Donelan MP on a fringe panel to discuss the UK’s fibre infrastructure. Coming up we'll be attending the SNP conference and chairing a session on affordable warmth.
Which? is calling on Ofcom to ban unpredictable broadband and mobile price hikes. Rocio Concha Galguera, Which? Director of Policy and Advocacy, said: 'It’s outrageous that unpredictable mid-contract price hikes have been allowed to continue in the telecoms industry for so long – especially when so many have been struggling to make ends meet during the cost-of-living crisis. Which? is calling on all providers to do the right thing and cancel 2024’s above-inflation price hikes. Consumers need to know exactly how much their contract will cost when they sign up.' https://lnkd.in/exWPZ9et hashtag#Connectivity hashtag#ConsumerRights

Say hello to Joe Wright, senior money content producer for Which?. Joe started out as a journalist in 2016, working in local media in Kent, where he secured a two-year apprenticeship after leaving school. He built his way up to become a chief reporter covering the ins-and-outs of Canterbury, Whitstable and Faversham for six years. At Which?, Joe covers anything to do with UK property, delving into what's happening to house prices and mortgages – a very topical area at the moment. He says: ‘I enjoy turning complex spreadsheets of data into meaningful stories which are easily digestible for readers.’ On what attracted him to Which?, he says: ‘Which? has a reputation for rigorous testing and research, as well as its national status. I also hadn't written for a magazine before and was attracted to learn how the process differs from newspaper publications.’

We're celebrating a MASSIVE CAMPAIGN WIN! The Online Safety Bill has passed and will soon be law. This is a massive moment in our fight to #StopOnlineScams. Social media giants will now be ordered to block and remove scam ads from their platforms, or face Ofcom's huge new fines. Rocio Concha Galguera, Which? Director of Policy and Advocacy, said: 'The Online Safety Bill passing its final hurdle in parliament is a very significant moment. Which? led the campaign for consumers to have stronger protections against potentially devastating scam adverts on social media platforms and search engines and these new laws should make a big difference by putting the onus on tech firms to stop them from appearing in the first place. The tech giants need to get their houses in order ahead of these new laws coming into force, while Ofcom must hold platforms to a high standard and stand ready to take enforcement action, including fines, against firms that fail to meet those standards.' #OnlineScams Ofcom, UK independent communications regulator
Say hello to Areeya Chan, also known as Cat, senior brand executive! Prior to joining Which?, Cat's marketing experience spanned three years spent as an account executive with a range of clients for Wunderman Thompson, followed by a marketing executive role at a food delivery app in Thailand. Here's why she was drawn to Which?: ‘What Which? is doing is providing consumers transparency so that they can make a well-informed decision before buying a product/service – a true consumer champion and I love that.’ Her main focus since joining Which? has been the paid advertising aspects of our cost of living campaign. ‘There's a demand from consumers who are actively seeking support and assistance in alleviating financial pressures. The cost of living advice and news that I work on to help those audiences make me feel like my role is meaningful.’
