Earlier today, Harry Kind appeared live in the studio with BBC Morning Live to showcase some of our everyday items content by discussing what foods you should never put in the microwave. Harry, ‘Microwaves are actually up 8% in use over the last 12 months. This is simply because it is so cheap to use a microwave. It will cost you around 4p to cook a potato in the microwave compared to about 30p in an oven on average.’ To watch the full segment and programme, catch it here: https://lnkd.in/eN5HSNWc
Today we’re celebrating one of our long-service colleagues, digital product manager Lesley Latimer. She recently celebrated 31 years of work at Which?. Lesley has held a variety of roles at Which?. She started out as a PA to the deputy director of research before moving into a support role in the Money team, where she helped to manage a variety of systems we used to track and manage project work. After a stint in corporate affairs, she moved into our Editorial team, scheduling and planning magazine content. Lesley then worked on the first-ever 'member-only' mini website – Which? Extra – which had product reviews across 30 categories. Since then Lesley has worked in content and digital teams, responsible for the homepage, commissioning tools and infographics. During this time her great work was recognised, as she worked her way up from digital content co-ordinator to digital product manager. Congratulations Lesley – we’re very proud of you! Lesley says: ‘Which? is an organisation where there are opportunities to grow and develop… plus a fantastic bunch of people!’
'Month after month of soaring food prices has seen trust in supermarkets plummet to a 10-year low - comparable to the dark days of the horsemeat scandal. Supermarkets have the power to ease the huge pressure faced by shoppers, especially families and those on low incomes, by putting low-cost budget range items in hundreds of more expensive convenience stores. Which? research has found that these stores rarely, if ever, stock the cheapest products.' Katie Alpin, Head of Strategic Insight at Which? #AffordableFoodForAll #CostOfLivingCrisis
Today, we have written to Ofcom to ask them to investigate Virgin Media's broadband contracts. #ConsumerRights
Today we've written to the Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, with other consumer advocates and travel agents, to ask him to make sure that airlines breaking the rules face hefty fines by giving the Civil Aviation Authority more powers to act amid flight cancellations. From last-minute cancellations to delays on refunds, he needs to show his support for passengers who are sick and tired of being let down by airlines. #ThisWontFly #ConsumerRights AITO - The Specialist Travel Association, loveholidays, Lovetts Solicitors , On the Beach, The Advantage Travel Partnership, Thomas Cook, TravelUp Group PLC

Last month, our press team secured 1,502 pieces of coverage, with our top story being Sue Davies MBE’, Which? Head of Food Policy, response to grocery price inflation showing the biggest drop since March. https://lnkd.in/eiHDfymx We’ve had a busy month on TV and Radio with our consumer experts Lisa Webb and Harry Kind appearing on BBC Breakfast, Channel 4 Evening News, BBC News, Sky News, Channel 5, BBC Radio 2 - Jeremy Vine show, BBC 5 Live Breakfast and more to discuss inconsistent and confusing food portion sizes, and the findings of the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) report on confusing unit pricing.
We caught up with senior lawyer and Which? spokesperson Lisa Webb to catch a glimpse of a day in her life… What does a typical day look like? Lisa: ‘Part of the beauty of my role is that no two days are ever the same. Some days I might start the day with a broadcast interview at 6am, on others I might start later but still be sitting at my desk past midnight trying to finalise pleadings for court.’ What do you love about what you do? Lisa: ‘'The unexpectedness of my role is part of why I love doing it - I particularly enjoy being a problem solver. Which? has some incredible humans inside its walls and I find myself frequently in awe of some of the skills we have at our disposal.’ What are your top tips for someone starting their career? Lisa: ‘Step outside your comfort zone and try something new. Don’t end up doing the same thing over and over just because you’re good at it. Trying new things can be scary and can sometimes result in total failure but often it brings brilliant opportunities, so it’s always worth a shot.’
Our consumer expert Lisa Webb, on BBC News earlier today where she discussed the latest Competition and Markets Authority report calling for more clear and consistent pricing following an investigation into supermarket unit pricing and months of campaigning by Which?. 'Supermarkets need to take immediate action and the CMA has been really clear here there is action to be taken straight away and that is make sure your pricing is consistent. What we need to see is the government stepping in now and providing some clarity and producing some new legislation or updating old legislation, so that everyone's doing the exact same thing.' #AffordableFoodForAll #CostOfLiving
We did it! Following our successful ‘Stamp out Scams’ campaign, a new law has now been passed stating that victims of bank transfer scams will be reimbursed by their bank. This is how our campaign started back in 2016, launching a super-complaint to the Payment Systems Regulator. The new rules for bank transfer fraud reimbursement will come into effect from 2024.
