What is a Technical Services Engineer?

Technical services engineers provide tech support and other IT services, often for highly technical systems or those used by customers in technical or scientific fields. They guide the setup and installation process, ensure all systems and programs are working well together, and assist with resolving any issues or conflicts. They help with configuration or modification of new or existing systems and programs. They also assist with security issues or questions.

Technical services engineers typically have at least a bachelor’s degree in an engineering or technical field, although an advanced degree is an advantage. They must have excellent analytical skills and good problem-solving abilities. Hands-on experience with program installation and integration is expected. Proficiency with programming languages is helpful, as is experience using troubleshooting tools and programs.

Responsibilities for Technical Services Engineer

  • Answer full range of technical sales support questions (products, process, or industry).
  • Interface with customers to provide product information and instructions.
  • Provide backup support to other technicians.
  • Prepare and send work orders for processing weekly payroll time reports.
  • Assist in keeping up with shop tools and their condition.
  • Oversee project-based Alpha testing of new products and modified products when required.
  • Review technician reports daily for accuracy, appropriate detail, and completion.
  • Maintain documentation for internal cataloging procedures and local standards.
  • Assist dealer, direct or end user service personnel in troubleshooting and diagnosing technical parts issues.
  • Provide specifications according to which the solution is defined, managed, and delivered.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering and other technical stakeholders on delivery of key solutions for the customer.
  • Deliver training to individuals or groups of customers and/or employees.
  • Resolve inquiries from library staff regarding bibliographic records and holdings.
  • Assist dealers and end-users with parts lookup and machine troubleshooting.
  • Conduct system training for client administrators and developers when applicable.
  • This supervisor must also interface extensively with all internal departments and work collaboratively to satisfy customer needs in balance with Inovonics' internal goals and objectives.
  • Advocate and evangelize 'best practice' approaches to client set ups to ensure long term success and value for clients.
  • Ensure implementations meet client specific missions and solve core challenges around effective, efficient and engage communications
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest process and IT advancements to automate and modernize systems.
  • Effectively communicate your insights and plans to cross-functional team members.
  • Assess the needs of each client. Recommend and document solutions.
  • Demonstrate and ensure timely and thorough communication of strategy, deliverable status, and results.

Qualifications for Technical Services Engineer

  • Bachelor's or Graduate's Degree in computer science, electronics, engineering, technology or mechanical engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Linux, C#, Jira, APIs, Agile, R Language, and Cloud software and systems.
  • Is a leader and problem solver.
  • Demonstrated time management skills.
  • A quick learner and collaborator with an eye for continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy and ability to react and act professionally under pressure.
