Good work life balance, pay is good (not great). Raises are about 3% annually. Get about 80% of the eligible bonus.
Cons
Constant department reorganizations. Unclear company objectives. Cross-functional business teams do not work well together because responsibilities are unclear, creating friction and reducing collaboration and sharing.
Lots of politics and folks with no retail experience only focused on themselves and not driving sales for company.
Worked well with school schedule, good starter job to make friends and talk to customers
Cons
make less than minimum wage without so much as a 10c raise for each year you work there, yet you are expected to be the catch all for each department. The work keeps you busy, but you do a lot for everyone with little to no reward. Also had to clean up a coworkers puke once. that wasn't fun
Employees will be terminated for questioning theft. Even if the person put hands on employee you will be fired regardless of your impeccable work ethics.
Very good pay for a minimum wage position. (15$ an hour)
The job gives you good insight into a grocery store's handling of merchandise.
Cons
Management was highly inconsistent and overcontrolling. Every little move was scrutinized and I never knew from one day to the next what was going to happen in that department. The hours and treatment from management were very taxing on my mental health and wellbeing and I had no room to be creative in how I approached the job or even improve it for myself because management would instantly correct it against my wishes. For example, I was not allowed to unload heavy boxes onto U-Boats so that I can more easily distribute them. I was told to take the entire pallet into an aisle if I came in early which was next to impossible for me to achieve due to the weight of the pallets. These requests were ignored and brushed off.
Our only automatic pallet jack which made moving heavy pallets very easily had it's wheel break. So we were stuck using manual hand cranked jacks which could not handle the heavy pallets at all. I tried to move back into my old department as a courtesy clerk which was a lot more consistent and manageable and I built good relationships up there but was told to wait an entire month for that and I realized that waiting that long was impossible. The manager also had a bad drinking problem and frequently showed up smelling like alcohol and was often belligerent.
