What is paid time off like at Boots?

Pros

The people are great, you are secure in the job and due to it being shift work it’s easy to get time off for appointments.

Cons

Mangers are not great overall, some of them are fantastic and love what they do. Others are box tickers. You do feel like a number sometimes

Advice to Management

Treat everyone the same, you need to care more about your staff and help those who work hard. More focus on the good and not the bad.

Does Boots offer massages?

Pros

Discounts at staff shop Nice cafe

Cons

Environment where supervisors pretend to care about your well being when all they care about is targets. Constantly being monitored and questioned on all your actions - clear distrust of employees Little to no progression unless your face fits or you get in a good team which is rare. I consistently asked for more training/responsibility and was always given an excuse even though I hit 100% on all targets. Hours are long and awkward due to shift patterns. We have to sit and take abuse from customers, there is a culture where we just have to take it. Putting the phone down on them is discouraged and we have to give them 3 warnings before putting the phone down. Ridiculous when someone is literally calling you a C word over not getting their free gift. Difficult to book holidays - I gave 6 weeks notice to have one day off - this was denied and in order to get it I had to swap a shift - so I didn't actually get the day off, I just swapped my shifts round. Pain in the behind. They time how long you go to the toilet for on comfort break, you're only allowed 10 mins for the whole day No bus pass No free fruit or coffee No more than 1 hr break for whole day ie. 30 mins lunch, 2 x 15 min break (at current role I get upto 1 hour lunch and 2x 15 breaks)

Advice to Management

Actually support and trust your staff, listen to them when they ask for opportunities.

Does Boots have a pension plan?

Pros

Benefits and pension are better than some other companies.

Cons

- Only focus on targets, profits and nothing else. - Terrible management. Leave the pharmacy short staffed and without a manager for months. - Keep cutting budget and staffing. Expect one staff to do two people's job. - Lack of appreciation. If you managed to keep pharmacy afloat, that is your job. One customer complaint and they came straight to you. - Everyone is just a cog in the machine and replaceable. They don't see you as an individual. - Had to really push to get support. Expect you to cope with dangerously low staffing level all day in an extremely busy pharmacy.

Advice to Management

Stop looking at charts and figures while sitting in the office. Try to understand why a pharmacy is failing to reach the targets and improve it!
