How are career development opportunities at Chevron?

      Chevron reviews

Great company, honorable history, striving to be the best, but with Cons

      Product line manager
      Current employee

      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

It historically had a great work culture and work/life balance with excellent career growth opportunity, but it is evolving with the trending replacement of American workforce for global service centers.

      Cons

Labor & staffing decisions are often made by outside consultants and upper leadership with little to no engagement of middle management that are on the front lines of delivering value and understanding of the talent. Wishful thinking does not think of the domain knowledge it takes to be the best. There is a shifting culture in Chevron that values saving money at the expense of the speed, ingenuity, and teamwork it once enjoyed.

A great and wonderful place to work in. Values equal opportunity hiring, diversity and inclusion, genuine concern for people and career

      Cons

When a particular department's workforce peaks, it needs to recalibrate and streamline that number. Possibility of getting laid off due to redundancy which is common nowadays.

      Pros

Great work-life balance, it's extremely hard to get fired because of performance related reason during your early stage of your career. Great pension plan

      Cons

There are frequent reorganizations and challenging workplace politics, particularly in certain departments like ITFP, making career advancement difficult.

      Juice not worth the squeeze

      Various roles
      Current employee

      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Decent pay and benefits, career opportunities can be abundant when the price of the commodities (hydrocarbons) are good.

      Cons

Way too much middle and upper management that incentivizes the creation of useless initiatives that are nothing but time sucks. No incentive to reduce and consolidate previous initiatives, which leads to a lot of "busywork" that doesn't affect the bottom line. Lots of internal broken policies. Way too corporate. When times are bad, management loves to threaten employees with their jobs if they don't overextend themselves.
