Work load is heavily dependent on tech transfers. When there’s a tech transfer you’ll be very busy. Workforce is very lean.

Genentech appears to have adopted the “no jerks” rule. The vast majority of people are collaborative, positive, and helpful. Even people in the C-suite are approachable and treat employees with respect. With that also comes a lot of respect for time outside of work. Vacations are expected; longer time out of office is backfilled to ensure that work (and guilt) doesn’t pile up. It is a great company for someone who has family members to care for.

There have been a lot of organizational changes the past few years. Just when you think you hit a groove, something changes. It can be frustrating at times.

Flexible schedule. Must be on site 3 days/week. Good compensation/benefits package. Great people. Significant autonomy.

Work-Life balance can get a little strained. Always asked to do something extra, in addition to your core function. The more you can do, the more you get assigned. It never ends. Inconsistent recognition and merit awards.
