What is working from home like at Genentech?

Pay is great, benefits are great, hybrid work from home and in office

Very frequent change in management, hit or miss with managers, highly competitive with moving around the company or getting promoted

+ challenging problems to solve + on-boarding process was good + work from home

- not a tech company: a software developer is expected to perform multiple duties - some tech is built on top of legacy technology

Work from home is the best part

Management spends all their time in meetings and not engaging with their employees

Very laid back- gives you a lot of freedom to work when you want and how you want. Great place for self-motivated people.

Too many people take advantage of the system. Example: I knew an intern who would leave work at 10:30AM to "beat the traffic" and finish his work from home...yet no work ever got done.

- lots of lay offs recently - not much diversity - much of the support system network is based offshore (India, Costa Rica, etc)/ language barriers and lack of familiarity make it difficulty to get appropriate support
