Pros
Schedule is consistent, benefits are good, culture is welcoming of diversity, and things are kept professional for the most part
Cons
Working in a pilot plant, technologists are expected to 'pivot' with agility, meaning that our jobs are constantly changing. There is no normal workflow, and the faster you are able to adapt, the better. This creates a toxic safety culture, which this location is working to address. However, their efforts are mostly compromised by too much managing and bureaucracy.
Working as a technologist in the pilot plant, I see people pushing themselves too hard in terms of their personal safety. There is a large amount of entitled office and development staff pushing for faster results. All the toxicity of a tech startup, with a much larger scale. Office staff loathes workers rights and safety culture, but live in an echo chamber. It is obvious that they have never been told 'no' and it is clear that they don't respect safety or production.
If they could actually stand up for their people, and realize that we want for them to succeed, then we could foster a true partnership, however they continue to squeeze harder for agility.
It is only a matter of time until a serious safety incident occurs. This is by far the most dangerous manufacturing environment I have worked at in my 15 years across 4 different states.
