      Pros

-Supportive and friendly colleagues: All of the people are really friendly and approachable. A very supportive environment -Decent benefits: Very generous pension scheme, 26 days paid annual leave, hybrid working, etc. -Career stability: Job security is high

      Cons

-Limited career progression transparency and growth beyond your role is very much unclear. -Gaining visibility is very challenging to do in National Grid -Slow at times and processes can be very bureaucratic

      Business Outlook

      Pros

      1) National Grid is a very stable organisation with a strong public purpose, which gives real meaning to the work. 2) Good focus on safety, resilience, and long-term infrastructure investment. 2) Competitive benefits package, including pension and flexible working options. 3) Generally supportive colleagues with strong technical expertise across the business. 4) Increasing emphasis on sustainability, net zero, and modernising the energy system which is interesting and very forward focused.

      Cons

      1) As a very large organisation, decision-making can be slow and bureaucratic. 2) Change initiatives can feel top-down, with inconsistent communication between senior leadership and their teams. 3) Processes and systems can sometimes feel outdated, particularly compared to more agile organisations. 4) There is some difference between how the US and UK folks are treated, I feel like the US get more benefits.

      Valuable Learning and Growth Opportunities

      Project management office (pmo) graduate
      Current employee

      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

      1. Structured Development Program: Clear progression with rotations, training modules, and support for professional qualifications (e.g., APM). 2. Supportive Work Culture: Friendly teams, approachable managers, and a strong emphasis on employee wellbeing. 3. Exposure to Large-Scale Projects: Opportunity to work on impactful infrastructure and sustainability projects across the UK. 4. Mentorship and Networking: Access to mentors, graduate communities, and networking events that help build confidence and career direction. 5. Work-Life Balance: Hybrid working options and flexible hours are often praised by graduates. 6. Strong Focus on Sustainability and Innovation: Involvement in projects that contribute to the UK’s net-zero goals and energy transition. 7. Competitive Salary and Benefits: Good starting salary, pension scheme, and other perks like volunteering days and employee resource groups. 8. Cross-Functional Exposure: Opportunities to collaborate across departments to broaden understanding of the business and build networks.

      Cons

      1. Limited Project Ownership Early On: Some graduates feel underutilized or that their responsibilities are too administrative in the early stages. 2. Geographical Constraints: Some roles may require relocation or long commutes, especially for site-based work. 3. Communication Gaps: Occasional lack of clarity around long-term career paths or post-scheme opportunities.

A great employer, although slightly unwieldy/slow in decision-making

      Pros

Good terms, great pension scheme Decent offices Strong social purpose

      Cons

Very large and therefore slow/complex in making decisions.

      Losing its appeal

      Project engineer
      Current employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

The pension scheme is good and there’s good options to buy/sell shares Good employee resource groups

      Cons

Unfortunately many of the benefits of working at National Grid are being taken away including flexible working, with return to office being implemented. The pay is below market average and it can be very difficult to move up the bands despite performing higher. Lots of reorganisations ongoing instead of addressing the issue.

      Pros

Back then was good overtime potential, good pension. Could get away with doing little to nothing if that’s your thing.

      Cons

Zero progression, got stuck on pointless mop jobs 90% of the time. Got treated like something on the bottom of managers shoes.

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Meaningful work People focused with support for training and development opportunities Great benefits with good pay and yearly performance bonus. Good pension. Great leaders and managers who care about the team

      Cons

Limited space available in some shared offices spaces to work more collaboratively with wider team. Sometimes communicating change initiatives that can affect projects is not as well delivered as could be.
