What is working from home like at National Grid?

      National Grid reviews

A great place to work in an uncertain time for the energy industry

      Business Outlook

      Pros

      - Clear communication of expectations throughout the hiring process - The interview process emphasized that DEI was important to the company's culture as well as the 3 major culture drivers ("Do the right thing", "Make it Happen," "Find a better Way") - ERGs for every affinity that are active and engaged - Flexible hybrid work culture (for management roles), ensuring face time with team members each week but also flexibility to work from home when needed - Competitive salary with opportunities for advancement - Generous bonuses driven by both personal and organizational performance - Focus on investing in the development of the people that are at National Grid - In times of uncertainty or unexpected project shut down/pause, NG recognized that skillsets are transferrable and rather than letting go of whole teams (like other companies), people were re-distributed based on transference of skill sets

      Cons

      - Lack of clarity regarding major decision-making from executive leadership - Unclear metrics for meeting and exceeding expectations for performance bonuses

      Pros

You get the opportunity to work from home and have somewhat of a flexible personal life. You get health benefits and discounts at certain places.

      Cons

Sometimes impossible to keep calls under a certain time limit and get reprimanded for longer calls not under your control. Management is very unorganized and often has limited knowledge on company police’s and advises you incorrectly, which causes you to be reprimanded by a manger higher up. You get a time limit on a bathroom break. If you have technical difficulties due to company’s fault, especially for an extended amount of days, you will NOT get paid, although it was the company’s fault. It is promised that you will have rotated weekends, but that’s not the case. Weekends are very hectic because often there are slim to none workers available. If the company decides to close on an holiday last minute, it is an MUST that you work in your off day, even if you had plans intl your off day. And lastly the amount work load and requirements does not add up to the pay and it’s hard to have career advancement here.

      Pros

Depending on your manager , good flex work from home. Potential Job Growth ....if you are friends with the right people

      Cons

Dishonest. Did not disclose what a "program position" means, programs end in x amount of years and employees need to apply to internal roles to stabilize job employment. This was not clear on the job posting, interviews, and I found 3 months in from someone in the hall way saying "i dont know if i will have a job in 3 years in this program" This is unbelievable and the only advice given by leadership is "network, and lets do a career development plan" all words just to keep you calm, this doesn't guarantee job employment in any form and i was LIED to. This wasn't an anomaly either, I asked multiple people who also did not get informed fully that were external or newer internal. They try to deflect by saying "National Grid gives you the power to choose where you want to go next instead of us placing you somewhere and controlling your path" All stupid words to say, figure it out yourself, we only care if our project completes on time and we meet target, you figure it out in the end...which is fine IF it was clear from the job interview and NOT three months in and not even through leadership but hallway talk....They also normalize constant re-orgs here.....people get shifted around like pawns in a chess board, it creates stress, chaos and confusion for employees to constantly learn new jobs with no pay raise. It is madness here, i regret taking this position and regret leaving my last company SO MUCH. i've only been at NG for 10 months and i am dying inside. I was at my last company for almost 5 years so i know what its like to give a role a chance and learn, but i feel so discouraged here. Praying for a new job elsewhere, please have me in your prayers

      Pros

Both a pro and a con: working here for office workers is very easy and pay is very competitive. There is little to no supervision. Often as I walk by employees in their cubicle, they are surfing the internet looking up recipes or shopping. Personally as someone who works extremely hard, this sickens me to watch. Many work from home with zero supervision. With this, they can do other paying jobs, have your own business from home, take care of your young children/infants, etc. Again, great for employees, horrible for the company but doesn’t appear that National Grid cares. In summary, great pay to do nothing.

      Cons

Poor management. No accountability. Age discrimination (older).
