      Good first job

      Courtesy clerk

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Easy job and decent pay for being in high school also usually get a store and Christmas bonus as well.

      Cons

The job can be demanding and unfilling at times.

      Solid Spot

      Business Outlook

      Pros

The job is what you make it. At the end of the day it is retail/customer service, There will be bad days and/or bad customers but for working at a gas station/convenience I'd say compensation is pretty solid especially the bonuses at certain stores.

      Cons

Your typical communication/understanding of how things actually operate vs. how corporate expects things to operate is probably the biggest con. The divide may shift at certain parts of the ladder but typically what corporate wants you to do is often unreasonable and your store manager can sometimes have their hands forced and can cause some fighting amongst store team. An obvious downside is dealing with bad customer's + manager's who are overly assertive/rude.

      Pros

The benefits are really good for a part time job. You get 15 days to call in whenever you like, monthly bonuses and even a 401k once you've worked there for a year.

      Cons

Your experience will depend on what store you are assigned, some are better than others and some of the people are tiresome.

      Will Cause You Depression

      Assistant manager
      Former employee
      Fort Worth, TX
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Weekly pay, and the insurance although not the best if you want to go to your own Doctor is reasonable. You can see a PCP at their clinic which is clean and modern.

      Cons

Unrealistic schedule and expectations. For an assistant manager, you literally have to work a mixture of early mornings, starting at 5 AM and two overnights, as well as some midday shifts, the only issue is you don't have to consecutive off days and there's no balance in your schedule so you may be going from a shift that ends at 11 o'clock at night to having to be up at 5 AM, also it's unrealistic that they expect you to work endlessly like a robot and nothing is ever done in completion because they want you to quickly get it done and if it's not properly cleaned it's OK because someone else will be coming behind you in about 30 minutes. Imagine having a task list of over 50 items all while trying to run a cash register And keep customers happy. This is the Amazon version of gas stations, overworking their staff and only paying them $15 an hour and throwing out random bonuses to appease them throughout the year. I literally felt the depression leaving my body once I quit this job.

      Pros

Pays well for the work required, very flexible schedules, and pays weekly. Store bonuses at the end of the month also boost hourly rate.

      Cons

No breaks, and some managers will make it difficult to have time to eat or go to the bathroom. Can also be hard to insert yourself into a store's culture as a new employee.

Only 10 sick days a year, weekends always seem understaffed, most store managers get away with bad attitudes and favoritism, is cutting our monthly bonus more and more each year, never seem to leave on time as a whole

      Pros

Flexible scheduling Ability to post and pick up shifts on an app Anniversary bonus every 6 months (after 1 year) profit bonus and secret shopper bonus based on hours (after 6? months) Most of the stores I've worked at have great environments

      Cons

Working with fryers Hourly pay isn't very good, but supposedly they're working on raising it No breaks, only "down-time" (usually managers will let you eat or whatever) Can get overwhelmingly busy sometimes (depends a lot on the store)
