      Pros

      - Some of your full-time coworkers are the best people you'll meet - Facilities are nice

      Cons

      - Contractors and guaranteed a "good conversion rate" from their respective employers only to find that's not the case. Chances of getting hired on full time are slim. - No new positions will be added next year (2024) because "current employee benefits and bonuses cost too much". - Contractors work long, hard hours and see the full time workers go home early. - No consequences for toxic behavior from other contractors, harassment and rude behavior go unchecked; Roche is not technically the employer of contractors, so problems get passed to contracting agencies and are often left unresolved. - Not a "speak up" environment among contractors - more "be quiet for fear of being fired". - Very little room for advancement, no raises or promotions for contractors. - Organization functions more off of how long you've spent doing grunt work for them than respective education and other professional experiences. - Working environment for contractors had just generally become very unpleasant. - The company takes advantage of contingent workers - they know it but no one seems to want to make a change.

Roche Diagnostics: Overall, a Positive Experience

      Senior project manager
      Former employee
      Pleasanton, CA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

It's an excellent place to learn. Great travel opportunities. Bonuses can easily exceed the target if the company has a good year. Good stability and work/life balance. Awesome health insurance and other benefits.

      Cons

The PM role is more administrative than leading, and it shows. Easy to be pigeonholed, as roles are highly specialized. For the same reason, it can be hard to grow. The usual office politics, though not as bad compared to other places.

We’re glad we’ve been able to support you in creating the work-life balance that matters most to you. We believe that a healthy balance between the two is imperative to the overall happiness of our employees and therefore the success of our organization. At Roche, we view career development as a journey that often involves multiple paths. Upward mobility is one path. Embracing opportunities to broaden skills and experiences across the business, or exploring new possibilities are alternative paths. Ultimately, individuals are responsible for their own career, but we provide the tools and a workplace where the job description does not define who you are. Rather, it serves as the starting point for your career journey. We’re all working to create a healthier future for everyone, and we start by remembering that when we are growing and thriving as individuals, the more we’re able to give to others. We encourage employees to take advantage of internal development opportunities, or our gigs, which are a great tool for people from diverse backgrounds to network and grow their skill sets quickly. We encourage employees to leverage conversations with their managers or leaders to discuss what might be next in their career.

      Cons

      1. Slow Decision-Making As a large company, processes can be bureaucratic and slow. Getting approvals, aligning teams, or initiating changes may take time. 2. Limited Agility Innovation can sometimes be slowed by compliance, documentation, and global harmonization requirements, especially compared to startups. 3. Risk of Restructuring Despite being stable, Roche occasionally restructures departments—especially in diagnostics—which can impact team continuity or job security. 4. Internal Politics in Some Groups Like many big corporations, your experience may depend heavily on your manager and team. Some departments may be less collaborative than others.

We understand that the often-conflicting demands of work and personal life can be a major source of stress. The key to creating work-life balance is to set expectations that are reasonable for you. For many of us, the harmony between our work and life outside of work is dynamic, with some days and weeks when we are in better harmony and other times when things are not where we want them to be. We would encourage you to discuss your concerns with your local manager or HRBP in order to come up with a plan that helps you better balance both your work and outside-of-work life.
