What are perks and other benefits like at SharkNinja?

      Poor leadership harms young talent

      Category analyst
      Former employee
      Needham Heights, MA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Good salary, good benefits, easy to gain a lot of experience both in your field and the small appliances industry overall, lots of opportunities for growth

      Cons

Kindness to coworkers definitely takes a backseat here, especially with regards to how management treats mid-level managers and how mid-level managers are then pressured to treat junior employees poorly. If you can get a good manager who resists the toxicity at the top then it’s great but they can really only shield you so much. This is the kind of company where executives find it completely acceptable to use vulgar language when speaking to one another and to employees.

No Work Life Balance, Poor Leadership

      Manager
      Former employee
      Needham, MA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Fair pay, stock options, nice office, good benefits, hybrid work.

      Cons

Toxic work culture due to poor leadership. Teams are constantly throwing each other under the bus and looking for someone to blame when things go wrong. ZERO strategy or standard operating procedures. Management calls this a 'fast paced, start-up like environment' which actually means the strategy will change every week over week, sometimes multiples days a week, and most of the time there is no strategy. You will be reprimanded if you can't keep up with what the ELT decides to call a 'strategy' that day. Horrible, horrible leadership. The CEO will overhaul a strategy weeks before launch based off a feeling. CEO typically sends the CPO to meetings they cannot attend, who has no experience in anything over than product and engineering. SVP of PD creates chaos because they can't keep strategies straight and sends teams running in circles. ZERO work life balance. Amongst the chaos, you are expected to work well outside of 9-5. Most meetings start at 7am and 8pm. You will be ridiculed if you have a personal commitment, family, or basic work/life boundaries. No commitment to professional development and no structured on-boarding or training. PIPs run rampant, there were individuals placed on PIPs 90 days into the role. PIPs are based off your manager/boss' opinion and most management suffers from confirmation bias.

      Current employee

      Business Outlook

      Pros

If you're outgoing and ambitious, the sky is the limit here. The benefits and pay are amazing. The office is wonderful. Some of the smartest people I've ever met work here.

      Cons

There is no time to feel at "home" with your coworkers/team. I miss having camaraderie like I've had at smaller companies. You're often silo'd in your work, which makes collaboration difficult, and often means blame is shifted around a lot. Speaking of blame, there can be a lot of it. Reviews with executives are VERY intense, meaning that people are often doing everything they can to make the best slide decks to show off and look the most useful. Rather than actually BEING useful. I try to keep my head down and do good work, but because of that, my efforts often get "claimed" by those in other teams for clout. Another issue is work-life balance. Just... forget about that working here. I hold my boundaries firm, but it affects my bonus pay/performance reviews. Sorry, I'm not answering a call at 7pm unless it's an emergency. I won't normalize that. TL;DR: corporate clout chasing, terrible work-life balance, and a bit lonely.

      Pros

Good place to work if its your very first work experience Layoffs are pretty rare comparitively to other companies Work life balance is decent in software teams but not for product teams

      Cons

Interns are overhired to replace full time headcount There are too many interns and very little scope of conversion into a full time gig if thats your goal There are very few benefits for full time employees Lot of internal company politics

      Business Outlook

      Pros

      Good benefits and free/discounted products

      Cons

It's ironic that SharkNinja makes robots because employees quickly turn into them. Employees are solely there to execute the work - they have no say in the business and don't have any power to make strategic decisions. They are expected to come armed with dozens of slides each week with recommendations to present to ELT, when in reality, the only person making decisions is the CEO (which almost always go against CI data). No one is creative, no one thinks for themselves...because it all just comes down to what he wants and no one pushes back. Project deadlines are constantly being pulled in, creating even tighter timelines, and employees are expected to bend over backwards to hit new unrealistic dates to avoid getting yelled at. Yep, grown adults getting yelled at at work! Work/life balance is nonexistent, roles aren't clear, and many managers aren't equipped to manage teams. Directors and above try to justify the toxicity as just being SharkNinja and laugh it off instead of actually fighting for a change because they're scared. Highly recommend trusting the negative reviews because they are true.
