What is working from home like at THG?

Can be a great place to work, just depends if you're in the cliques or not

      Pros

There was some flexibility over working hours, location of work etc. You could always communicate with people and had some flexibility over creativity and creating projects.

      Cons

You had unachievable deadlines and ROIs, the place was constantly booming with music so you couldn't think half the time, and there were not enough quiet spaces to think. If you didn't drive, it was a PAIN to get into the office as it is in the middle of nowhere. You would barely get recognition for overtime / hard work, in which the managers used to take the credit. You had to stick to project deadlines and whilst some people would push for new and creative projects, they ultimately ended up stalling at a dead end. If you want to progress, you really need to put yourself out there and be best buds with the top employees in the company. It is extremely cliquey and you need to almost squash any uniqueness about you to fit in with the crowd. And, they advertise flexible and hybrid working to people, but actually they changed this recently so that you can only work from home 1 day a week, and if you are a graduate or new to a role, you have to come into the office 5 days a week - so it's not really flexible or hybrid. They might as well say you get one day working from home.

      Pros

Some friendly members of staff when interviewed.

      Cons

I declined a job offer - long commute with no flexibility to work from home at all and expected to work extra hours without pay. Paid for a DBS check and did not receive a refund. Ended up with a job where I can work at home 4 days a week with 40 days holiday per year.

      Pros

Some good discounts, although these seem to be getting worse each year Staff shop with some good bargains

      Cons

Poor salary compared with other companies No pay rises No bonuses No scheme/guidance to progress - some people in the business get arbitrarily promoted and others who have been there for years arent given any guidance on how to progress Employees are very micromanaged - the company monitors the minute you scan in and scan out of the office and must know exactly what you’re doing/where you’re working at all times No flexibility to work from home regardless of commute distance

      Pros

Trauma bonding with others. The PEOPLE are the best part, and the only thing that gets you through. Although, most of the good ones have left now.

      Cons

No flexibility, having to make doctors calls in office etc. Coffee and lunch prices are not cheap when you have to go in 5 days a week. No parking really past 8am. Everyone is under 30 years old it seems, so you have very young managers fresh out of uni. They pay execs the same as graduates… Most people have left now due to the toxic environment which means the rest of the people are doing 6 peoples work on very little money. You won’t ever get a bonus, or salary increase so don’t ask about that. People are quitting with no job to go to. Oh, and if you need to WFH for an emergency or you’re not well or your cars broken etc.. you have to take ANNUAL LEAVE. Meaning your mental health will decline as you use all your holiday for silly things. They’re constantly trying to beat sales from COVID…when everyone worked from home…hmm maybe let people work from home a bit more then? Being in 5 days a week creates a toxic environment where you get gossip etc. not good! you won’t last long here, so maybe don’t bother.

      Pros

Nothing - met mates from there, where we bonded over our shared hatred over the place

      Cons

I spent three years at THG, and it took a serious toll on both my mental health and my faith in workplace culture. The sad truth is this: it’s not what you know, it’s who you know. You can work yourself to the bone, meet every target, take on extra work, and still be completely overlooked—unless you’re related to someone in management or you’re good at playing politics. Genuine effort counts for nothing there. When I joined, there was flexibility with working from home, which helped. That was suddenly taken away without reason. You're offered no flexibility, even in the most basic human circumstances. One colleague wasn’t allowed to work from home when their pet was seriously ill and later died—yet others were granted WFH for the most trivial reasons. Zero consistency, zero compassion. Are you ill and want to work from home? Nope. Person who management loves wants to work from home? "Oh sure love, take 2" Once asked to work through my break so I could attend a house viewing—flat-out said no. Another colleague wanted to leave 15 minutes EARLY—"Yeah sure, no problem!" The favouritism is so blatant it’s insulting. It’s not just frustrating—it’s toxic. People are bullied out of the company. Management turns a blind eye while morale sinks lower by the day. The place is full of good people who are burnt out, disillusioned, and either checked out or actively job hunting. My own mental health plummeted. I began having panic attacks at work, crying in the bathroom stall daily. I became severely depressed. And speaking of the bathrooms—they're grim, like everything else in the Northwich office. It’s a soulless building that reflects exactly how the company treats its staff. I have heard from members of staff there I still keep in touch with, of the recent introduction of 7-hour shifts during quiet periods until they force you to work 9-hour days over Christmas to "make up for it." They ask for feedback but push it through regardless. You're made to feel like you should be grateful for scraps. Temporary workers—beware. The “3-month” Christmas contracts are a complete scam. Temps are let go just before Christmas, year after year. Last year, six were let go, and four of them were told not to return with less than a week’s notice. No explanation, no warning—just out. Heartless. And if you're thinking of joining as an apprentice, think twice. You’ll do exactly the same work as permanent staff for less pay and zero recognition. That’s it. No learning, no development. Just cheap labour. Save yourself and your sanity. Do not even think of applying here. And for anyone still there - get off that sinking ship before it drowns you.

Diverse ML Roles & Strong Management, but Limited Perks

      Ml engineer
      Current employee
      Pune
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

      - The company hosts a diverse range of ML projects, spanning NLP, recommendation systems, search, and logistics—offering rich opportunities for hands-on contribution. - Teams are well-structured and supported by professional line managers who conduct timely and regular 1-on-1 meetings, providing guidance and support. - There’s an overall healthy work environment, with supportive evaluations and transparent interviews enhancing the experience. - Compensation is competitive, making the company an attractive place for those in ML-focused roles.

      Cons

Areas for Improvement I Noticed : - Limited benefits beyond statutory PF (health insurance, wellness benefits, or flexible work arrangements etc) - Just 8 sick leave days annually: This falls on the lower end of the typical range (1 per month is standard in many good companies) - No dedicated marriage leave: Marriage leave isn’t mandated under Indian law but is often granted by companies as a one-time benefit ranges from 3-10 days. - 5 days work from office, It's hard to manage if you are not from pune itself. - Modest salary increases: Given current inflation rates and benchmarks in India it's on lower end. - Lack of team outings or social events: There are no organized team dinners, get-togethers, or off-site outings
