Pros
Decent benefits, regular raises, pretty good pay compared to carriers. Great job if you have a high tolerance for boredom and toxicity. No drug test, no interview, just a simple reading comprehension test.
Cons
The most stressful job I've ever worked. You start off as a temp employee, and if you call out even once in your first 90 days you'll be on your last leg. Your schedule is supposed to not change without at least a week's notice, but supervisors and managers will text or call you to change your schedule sometimes less than 8 hours before they want you to come in. Yes, you can get the union and file a grievance, but they still want you to come in and work those hours. I had quit smoking cigarettes but this job made me take it back up. And even at the stations where management was pretty good, the customers or carriers would make up for that. It's like 30% of the work force is constantly looking for a fight, because they all hate their jobs. It's impossible to get anybody fired once they go regular, I literally had a carrier tell me to "catch me outside," threatening me, a federal employee, and nothing was done. Nothing.
