Pros
Benefits are good; good health insurance, a yearly allotment of paid time off that gets bigger with seniority after becoming a regular (starting at 2 weeks and maxing out at 5, I believe). A strong union looking out for you. The times when your office is well staffed, the mail volume is light, and the weather is nice, it’s actually a pretty sweet job.
Cons
A ton of forced overtime if the office you work at needs the help. This is almost guaranteed when you’re brand new as a CCA but it’ll happen no matter how much seniority you have if your office is short staffed enough. Personally, I’m okay with this to an extent. The overtime pay is good and it’s also a good thing that we’re able to get it and sign up for it voluntarily if we choose when it’s not forced, but when you hit those stretches where you’ve been working 65-70 hours/6 days a week for 9 months straight (had one month I was doing 100 hour weeks) and after you’ve been a regular for years and there’s no end in sight, you start to wonder if it’s really worth it to just end up tired all the time with no social life. But if you have kids to support and no higher education, the post office is a great place to earn the money you need.
