Pros
You can visit the parks whenever you want, and parking is free. The employee discounts on food, merchandise, and hotels are genuinely excellent, and you receive complimentary tickets for friends and family every few months. The tuition assistance program is also one of the strongest benefits they offer.
Cons
My experience at Universal Orlando’s corporate side was extremely negative. The culture is full of corporate politics—backstabbing, bootlicking, bad-mouthing, and even moments where I felt like some behavior had racial undertones. You’re expected to know everything with almost no direction, and you get punished if you don’t do things exactly the way management imagines them. Micromanagement is everywhere.
There’s also heavy pressure to “drink the Kool-Aid.” Activities labeled as “optional” often felt mandatory, especially when they required staying after hours. One of the directors even made comments toward me that I felt like were racially inappropriate.
I even accepted another role within the broader Comcast organization, and when their team reached out to my former managers and HR at Universal, I felt like they went out of their way to speak negatively about me. Their comments ultimately cost me that opportunity. This experience made me feel that certain leaders will actively undermine former employees, so be careful.
I won’t call out the exact department, but anything tied to marketing should be approached with caution. Maybe other departments or park-side roles are better, but anything to do with marketing. Beware!
