Well, we want both accuracy AND precision, and these can be accomplished in a variety of ways. How I ensure both in my work is to have a set of procedures that I can go through and review. I also make sure to document the steps I took (e.g. in my lab notebook) and include all of measurements, observations, figures, etc. so that if I, or anyone else, can come back to the notebook in 5-10 years and be able to replicate my results. Also, when I’m double-checking my work, I take the time to make sure my instructions are clear and ask my co-workers to review my notes, as needed.
